Nikki Beckett could only watch as her boyfriend, Jack, sacrificed himself to save her, taking her place in the Tunnels of the Everneath for eternity — a debt that should’ve been hers. She’s living a borrowed life, and she doesn’t know what to do with the guilt. And every night Jack appears in her dreams, lost and confused and wasting away.

Desperate for answers, Nikki turns to Cole, the immortal bad boy who wants to make her his queen — and the one person least likely to help. But his heart has been touched by everything about Nikki, and he agrees to assist her in the only way he can: by taking her to the Everneath himself.

Nikki and Cole descend into the Everneath, only to discover that their journey will be more difficult than they’d anticipated — and more deadly. But Nikki vows to stop at nothing to save Jack — even if it means making an incredible sacrifice of her own.

In this enthralling sequel to Everneath, Brodi Ashton tests the bonds of destiny and explores the lengths we’ll go to for the ones we love.

Grrr. Arghhhh. COLE. I hate you, then I like you, and then I hate you some more, and I like you a little bit, and then I HATE YOU.

Ahem, I'm done ranting.

I really enjoyed this book because I am such a huge fan of Dante's Inferno. So, the whole premise of Nikki searching for Jack amongst the Everneath was awesome for me. I'm super excited to see how the final book is going to play out especially after that ending!

I really like Nikki's character. She completely broke my heart in the first book. Ashton did such an amazing job of making me feel every little thing Nikki did- her anguish, her brokenness, her loss. There were points in that first book where I thought I'd never feel joy. But I did. And it came in the form of Jack Caputo. As heartbroken as he was, he never stopped loving Nikki and once he knew the truth about what happened, he would not leave her side. Which is why he sacrificed himself for her at the end of Everneath. In this book, she is determined to get him back. And that determination does not waver or falter for the entire novel. She will do whatever it takes to get Jack back- even if that means placing her trust in the one who got in her into this whole mess in the first place. Cole.

Cole's character, as you saw my rant above, is a bit complex. I really think he does love Nikki. But I find him to be selfish and self-serving. And after the ending I don't see how ANY of you can be all 'Team Cole'. But to each his own, I suppose.

I also really like how Brodi continued to give us flashbacks of Nikki and Jack together. That definitely helped pick up the mood of the novel because let's face it. This series isn't a happy-go-lucky one. It's one that is rooted in deep hurt, pain, and loss. Yet, as I said earlier, we do find moments of joy and most of all hope.
