Chasing River Quote Card 1

It's been a long time since I've finished a book and felt physically bereft because it was over. I am at such a loss as to what to do right now because I was NOT ready to leave River, Amber, and Ireland behind.

For most who know me, it's no secret that I am constantly consumed by wanderlust. I love traveling and wish I could do it way more than I do. Having visited Ireland myself back in 2006, it was love at first sight. I visited the Cliffs of Moher just like Amber and River did, as well as ventured into Galway. With the Irish setting and history, River and Amber's romance, and the criminal underworld that River's older brother has gotten them mixed up in- you've got one hell of a story. This story is not as suspenseful and tension wrought as the other two in the series, but I was still engaged and completely wrapped up in it.

Amber has always been the good twin, always doing what is right and erring on the side of caution. Having grown up the daughter of an Oregon sheriff, she believes in the system and upholding the law. However, when she arrives in Ireland and is nearly killed by an exploding pipe bomb, she can't bring herself to out the green-eyed stranger who saved her life. She finds herself wishing she could track him down and thank him, and luckily for her, fate intervenes.

River is one of those characters that I won't be forgetting anytime soon. He is a good guy through and through and his loyalty to his family really endeared him to me. He knows his brother is in a world of trouble, yet he can't help but remember all the times his brother stuck up for him and had his back. He doesn't agree with Aengus's allegiances, but he won't sell him out either. When Amber shows up at his family's pub, he knows it's a bad idea to give her the time of day as she's just passing through, but he can't help but be attracted to the sweet American girl he saved.

I loved that Amber was the pursuer here. She isn't a bold girl by any means, but traveling around Europe is a once in a lifetime opportunity and she's not going to waste it. She had created a to-do list with her brother's girlfriend, Alex, and number one on that list is to have a torrid affair with a foreigner. That is definitely not Amber's style, but having met River, all bets are off.

There are two secondary characters in particular that I absolutely adored and was so glad we got quite a bit of page time with. Tucker introduces us to Ivy, a girl Jesse and Amber went to high school with and who is also staying in Dublin for a short time, working as a tattoo artist. Ivy didn't have the easiest time in high school and she really blames Amber for a lot of that, so it was interesting to see their relationship develop and unfold. I'm really looking forward to her book, Surviving Ice, next! Then we have Rowan, River's youngest brother, who I am absolutely 100% in love with. He is carefree and a bit of a ladies man and good Lord, I need that boy to have his own book, especially after some of the events that took place in this one.

My jumbled thoughts aside, I loved this book with every fiber of my being. It did take a quick minute to get into with how detailed Tucker can be, but once I forced myself to stop being my usual distracted self, I was a goner. I wasn't kidding when I said I was devastated this was over, but I loved seeing Amber's To-Do list at the end... All in all, this was a great addition to the Burying Water series and I'm so glad we got to see Amber spread her wings and embrace what she wants out of life.

Chasing River Quote Card 2

About CHASING RIVER: Armed with two years' worth of savings and the need to experience life outside the bubble of her Oregon small town, twenty-five-year old Amber Welles is prepared for anything. Except dying in Dublin. Had it not been for the bravery of a stranger, she might have. But he takes off before she has the chance to offer her gratitude. Twenty-four-year-old River Delaney is rattled. No one was supposed to get hurt. But then that American tourist showed up. He couldn't let her die, but he also couldn’t risk being identified at the scene—so, he ran. Back to his everyday life of running his family’s pub. Only, everyday life is getting more and more complicated, thanks to his brother, Aengus, and his criminal associations. When the American girl tracks River down, he quickly realizes how much he likes her, how wrong she is for him. And how dangerous it is to have her around. Chasing her off would be the smart move. Maybe it's because he saved her life, or maybe it's because he's completely different from everything she's left behind, but Amber finds herself chasing after River Delaney. Amber isn’t the kind of girl to chase after anyone. And River isn't the kind of guy she'd want to catch.

  6. Great review! I liked the first book, Becoming Water but I haven't read the second yet. I have a feeling I'll enjoy this one too simply because of the setting. I think it's a great series with dark and gritty situations. Plus Ms. Tucker is a fantastic writer.
