I have been anxiously awaiting Brent's book ever since finishing Sustained, so I was eager to dive right in once I got my hands on it. I will go ahead and tell you that I devoured this book in one sitting, which has become a rarity for me lately. I could not get enough of Brent and Kennedy and their awesome banter. I am such a sucker for second chance romances, so this worked so well for me. And the extended epilogue? Sheer perfection. I teared up and just felt so overwhelmed with emotion because it was EXACTLY the ending I was looking for.

Brent is the laid back one of the group and is all about living life to the fullest and enjoying himself. He has worked hard to make a name for himself and he doesn't depend on his parents or their money to help him get by. I love that he isn't too proud to see a therapist and that he genuinely takes his advice to heart. Not many guys would be willing to do that and talk out their issues with someone else, so Brent instantly earned points for being so self-assured. He's confident, but he doesn't come across as a jerk either. He was a great protagonist and I loved being inside his head.

When Kennedy Randolph waltzes back into his life, Brent is pretty stunned. He has always cared for the girl next door, but now she's an absolute knockout. I loved her sass too! She doesn't let Brent get away with ANYTHING and I was proud of her for giving as good as she did. She has some serious steel walls though and after finding out how she was bullied and treated in high school, I don't blame her one bit. I hated how her and Brent's history got so warped and ruined by pettiness and jealous mean girls. Their history definitely plays a role in their current relationship and it's no easy task for Brent to win Kennedy's heart. He has to work for it, but he does so brilliantly and I love that moment where he lays it all on the line for her. He doesn't mince words, doesn't play games. That's a man after my own heart right there. As always, Emma Chase delivers on the delicious, sexy times, as well as the swoony ones!

I enjoyed seeing Stanton, Sofia, Jake, Chelsea, and the kids again too. Seeing them interact as a group really made my heart happy and they have a great dynamic together. The extended epilogue was everything I could ever want for these characters and it's a bittersweet feeling to say goodbye. However, I thought Chase did a wonderful job with this third novel in the Legal Briefs series. As always, I can't wait to see where she takes us next!

I really love Emma Chase's books. I seriously cannot get enough of them. They make me swoon, make me laugh, and even make me cry at times. Sustained is no exception. I absolutely loved Chelsea, Jake, and all of Chelsea's nieces and nephews. They were so much fun to spend time with and it was fun to watch Jake get wrapped up in their lives and start falling for all of them.

 

Jake is not the relationship guy, having preferred to focus on his career and success. Having gotten into some trouble when he was younger, he appreciates having a mentor who took him under his wing and saw past the rougher edges. With his background, it's no surprise he takes to Rory, Chelsea's nephew, and feels sympathetic to the kid's plight. When he sets eyes on Chelsea and how she's the sole provider for her 6 nieces and nephews, he can't help but admire her or stop thinking about her. Fate brings the two back together and soon, Jake finds himself wanting to spend more time with her.

 

I really liked how Jake and Chelsea's relationship progressed and while Jake thought he didn't want a relationship, everything he said and did completely contradicted that. He has become an important part of Chelsea's and those kids' lives and he had accepted his role as a parental figure along with Chelsea. The two balanced one another out so well. So, I felt the conflict between the two at the end was a bit unnecessary. Sure, Jake had a freak out moment, which I understood, but I felt the story could have worked even without that little hiccup.

 

Jake is a pretty great narrator and I loved being in his head. Like Emma's past male narrators, he is quite funny himself and there were definitely a few laugh out loud moments for me. Emma is just so witty and clever with her dialogue. She captures male voice so very well and it's just refreshing to read.

 

I really enjoyed seeing Stanton, Sofia, and Brent again. They are such a good team, so I loved what they did in the end. It was so fitting and I'm really looking forward to seeing all of them in Brent's book as well.

 

Overall, I really loved this one. I loved Jake and Chelsea together and watching their romance develop amidst the highs and lows of taking care of kids. I also enjoyed getting to know Chelsea's nieces and nephews and watching them interact with Jake. He is so good for them and I loved how he went to bat for them every time they needed him. It's definitely one of those stories that just make you feel good when it's all said and done and I'm sad that it had to end!

When I first started this one, I was a little worried about how things would go with Stanton, Jenny, and Sofia. Chase paints us a picture of how things with Stanton and Jenny used to be, so I was afraid it was going to be a really emotional, really messy book with hearts being broken. I've read Chase's Tangled series, so I should have really known better. Instead, it's a book about growing up, moving on, and letting go. I not only enjoyed the storyline immensely, but I also fell in love with a new set of characters!

 

Stanton Shaw is one sexy SOB. Seriously. I loved him. There were moments where I wanted to shake him, sure, but overall you can't deny this man's appeal. He's a public defense lawyer, has swagger for days, and loves his daughter unconditionally. Oh and he's definitely an expert in other areas....

 

He has a friends with benefits arrangement going on with his co-counsel Sofia Santos, who I also adored. She's pretty badass and reminded me a lot of Kate (from Tangled). She is extremely driven and loves her career. She hasn't wanted a relationship because relationships are complicated and she doesn't have time for all of that. Her arrangement with Stanton works. I felt it was absolutely mutual. By the time she starting having lingering feelings for him, so did he. It just took him a bit longer to get his head out of his rear and 'fess up to it! (Isn't that the case with most guys?) Their situation starts to change subtly- her spending the night for the first time, him getting jealous over another guy ogling her. However, Stanton is hit with the news that his ex, Jenny and mother of his child is engaged to another man. This obviously upsets him because he always thought it would be him.

 

I get why Stanton runs off to try and dissuade her. He thinks he's still in love with her. She's the one who pushed him to go to school across the country and then told him it was ok for them to have an open relationship. There was a part of him that always wanted to go back and be a family, but at the same time, both of them have grown up and have become different people. Having previously both been attached, they did engage in sexual activity while he was home visiting, but neither one made any promises to one another. I think Jenny always knew how their relationship would play out from the beginning when she sent him away to live out his dreams. Jenny isn't some random woman he hooked up with and impregnated. She was his first love and has always considered her his girl. They've been best friends even before they were lovers, so I get why he does what he does. Sofia is not the other woman in this situation, infringing on a happy relationship and trying to ruin it.

 

I loved seeing Stanton and Sofia back at home in Mississippi. His family, Jenny's family, their friends... it was so much fun. Sure, there were times when my heart hurt for Sofia because you could tell she was falling for him and it would sting when he would go off to try and talk sense into Jenny. But there wasn't a lot of that. He always had Sofia's back and was protective of her and cared about her. When he finally realizes that Jenny isn't the one for him, that he's been chasing a shadow of a memory, he begins the process of letting go and moving forward. He and Jenny will always share a daughter together and he will always love her, but there's no passion, no heat, no sparks.

 

I am really excited to continue this series. I enjoyed Brent and Jake's characters, two other lawyers who also work at the same firm as Sofia and Stanton. This book definitely did it for me. I loved the chemistry between Sofia and Stanton. They complement each other so well and you know they are meant to be together as soon as they cross into Mississippi lines. They have some seriously sexy times and I loved how they both know what they want and aren't afraid to give and take. The epilogue was so perfect for these two and I felt it was important for the readers to see that progression for them as a couple. This book was a huge win for me and I can't wait for more!

It might be starting to get cold outside, but this set of sexy novellas will heat things right up! I was super psyched to see some of my favorite romance authors contributing to this anthology! I adore Jennifer Probst and Emma Chase, and am familiar with their works, so it was great to read their stories and see some of my favorite characters again! Kate Meader, Melody Anne, and Kristen Proby also share their own novellas, which were fun and heartwarming to read as well.

 

At first I thought Jennifer Probst's novella would be about Kate and Kennedy (from the Searching For series) so we could see how their relationships were faring. Instead, we are introduced to two new characters- Dylan and Riley, who have both enlisted Kinnections help to find them a potential match. Their computer program shows them as a perfect match for one another and set them up on a blind date, but unbeknownst to them, they are already familiar with one another. I liked Riley and Dylan together and I enjoy stories where the main characters knew each other previously and are now reigniting the flame between them. Probst writes some delicious, sexy scenes and I really like that even though this is a novella, things felt natural with them together.

 

Once again we are back in the infamous Drew Evans' head for Emma Chase's novella. I love seeing Drew and Kate together, and we got some great moments with little James too. This story is both sexy and sweet at the same time. Drew and Kate have a great sex life, despite having a five year old son. They are so in love with one another it just warms your heart! I really like the Christmas Carol take, because it really makes Drew really stop and appreciate what he has in his life and how he wouldn't give it up for the world.

 

Kristen Proby and Melody Anne's stories were cute reads that both made me chuckle, even though they were a bit too insta-love for my tastes. Kristen Proby introduces us to a sexy billionaire and a klutzy woman who is staying at his resort in order to learn how to ski... and maybe have a sexy affair while she's at it! Melody Anne gives us a sexy, kind hearted man by the name of Hawk and a sweet schoolteacher who is new to town. Add in a few meddling old ladies who like to play matchmaker and you've got yourself the makings of a small town romance!

 

I also enjoyed Kate Meader's story because I just love second chance romances. Coming back to Chicago and being reunited with the boy that shattered her heart so many years ago, Darcy is determined not to make the same mistakes twice. However, Beck Rivera isn't someone who she can easily dismiss. Their sexual tension oozes off the pages and I love that these two have so much chemistry even after being separated for so long.

 

Overall, this was definitely a cute anthology and I'm so ready for the winter season to begin!

Guess who's back, back again.... that's right folks, our tell it like it is, not afraid to say what's on his mind, Drew Evans is back in the driver's seat for the epic conclusion of his and Kate's story. Once again, this book is laugh out loud funny and it's even more so with Drew offering a bit of fatherly advice.

 

"It's our golden rule. Our first commandment: Don't wake the fucking baby. I'll repeat that in case you missed it: DON'T WAKE THE FUCKING BABY. Like... ever. Still don't get it? Must not have kids then. See, children are beautiful. Precious. Angelic. Particularly when they're asleep. If they're disturbed mid-sleep cycle, however? They're monsters. Irritable, angry little beasts who bear a striking resemblance to gremlins fed after midnight."

 

Drew has come a long ways since we first met the man-child battling the 'flu' in the first book. His life has been changed by two very important people and we really see the impact they both have on him in this book. Drew might act like a cocky, self-assured guy, but seeing him brought to his knees because of his love for these two will just warm your heart.

 

We are one week out from Drew and Kate's wedding and the gang has bachelor/bachelorette festivities planned for a crazy weekend in Vegas. I know- probably not the best idea, considering Drew's colorful past. The trust that has been constructed between him and Kate has been solidified and the two trust that the other will not go too crazy. That being said- it's Drew and Kate! We wouldn't have a story if crazy didn't happen!

 

I'm really happy with the way this novel played out. Drew and Kate just work so well together as a couple, and I like that they confront their problems as a unit. Their chemistry is still off the charts smoking, so if you were afraid we wouldn't get a lot of sexy times because of a certain 2 year old cutie, you are so wrong! It's Drew and Kate! They make it work!

 

I'm glad we got to see the gang as well and see the shenanigans they get themselves into in Vegas. Because there are shenanigans, for sure! Please. Like Drew, Matt, Billy, Jack, and Steven could NOT get themselves in trouble. The same goes for Kate's crew- with Dee behind everything, you know things are going to get.... interesting.

 

Overall, I was incredibly satisfied with how Kate and Drew's story ended and I like that Chase left some storylines open enough to grant the possibility of a novella or short story in the future. It's definitely bittersweet to see Drew and Kate's story conclude, as I just love them so much. Chase has truly created some memorable characters in this series and it's one I will always think back on with a huge smile on my face.

Stop me if you’ve heard this one before: girl meets player, they fall in love, player changes his ways.

It’s a good story. But it’s not our story. Ours is a lot more colorful.

When I met Dee I knew right away that she was special. When she met me, she thought I was anything but special—I was exactly like every other guy who’d screwed her over and let her down. It took some time to convince her otherwise, but turns out I can make a convincing argument when sex is at stake.

You might know where this story’s headed. But the best part isn't where we ended up.

It’s how we got there.


TAMED goes back in time to the Tangled days. But this time around, it’s not Drew dishing out the advice and opinions—it’s his best friend Matthew, who of course is dealing with Dee Dee.

 

 

 

I absolutely cannot get enough of this series! Even though I love the adventures of Drew and Kate, I have to say I was pretty interested in seeing how their best friends Matthew and Dee got together. We meet both characters in the first book in the series Tangled, so we already had an idea of their personalities. I'm so glad Emma wrote this book. Set at the same time as Tangled, you're in for quite a treat to see how these two crazy kids got together!

 

Pacing: I felt the pacing went really well. Told from Matthew's POV, Chase really engages readers with her amazing ability to nail male voice. I did feel the ending was a bit abrupt, even with an epilogue included. Or maybe it was me just not wanting this book to end....

 

Storyline: Chase has created another hilariously delightful read in Tamed. I loved reading about Matthew and Dee's first meeting and seeing what he thought of her through his eyes. Matthew is a much tamer version of Drew, but he still has some noteworthy lines that made me crack up.

 

"Delores is a gorgeous name, for a gorgeous girl. Plus, it rhymes with clitoris…and I really know my way around them. Big fan."

 

However, it's not a case of boy meets girl, boy dates girl, boy and girl fall in love and live happily ever after. Dee definitely puts Matthew through the ringer and I have to applaud him for putting up with some of the stuff he did when most guys would have walked.

 

A huge plus is that we get to see our beloved characters from the series. Drew and Kate are in the middle of getting their feelings figured out, and Alexandra (Drew's sister) and her daughter Mackenzie are also featured and will put a smile on your face.

 

Characters: I loved seeing Alexandra in this book. She has been dubbed as "The Bitch" by Drew, and she isn't ignorant of that fact. She really lives up to that title in this book, but in a protective way. She has grown up with Matthew and has been there for him through some difficult relationships and breakups. She offers him female advice, but she is not someone to mess with.

 

"I seriously doubt we'll be meeting again. Matthew's sweet, not stupid."

 

Mackenzie is also close with Matthew and I love that he takes her out and watches her as if he really were an uncle to her. Like Drew, Matthew tends to forget that as a kid, she has no filter and will repeat ANYTHING she hears.

 

"Uncle Matthew, whas 'horny' mean?"

I'm quick with the save. "Excited."

She nods... and files it away in her adorable, unpredictable mind.

Alexandra tells her, "There's a package on your bed- it came while you were out. I think it's the Elizabeth American Girl doll Grandma bought for your birthday, the one that was back-ordered."

Mackenzie's mouth forms a precious O, and she practically vibrates with excitement. "I been waiting for dat! I'm soooo horny!"

 

Matthew is a good guy and I really like that about him. He's not a douchebag like Drew is and really respects women. He meets Dee and is instantly attracted to her, asking her out. Surprisingly even after the clitoris comment, she agrees. He is only looking for a one-night stand, but after one night, he realizes it won't be enough.

 

We also got to see some Matthew-Drew bonding time and I loved it. They are good friends to one another and I'm glad we got to see that side of their friendship in this book.

 

Dee definitely provides Matthew with a challenge. She has been burned before and doesn't expect more from him. However, he shocks the hell out of her when he calls her wanting to go out again. She doesn't understand why he would want to, because she lets her insecurities and fears of the past repeating itself keep her from seeing just what a good, beautiful woman she is.

 

There are a few times I wanted to knock some sense into Dee and tell her to stop jumping to conclusions though. She warned Matthew that he might regret getting involved with her, but thankfully Matthew isn't easily dissuaded.

 

Final Thoughts: If you loved Tangled, you'll enjoy this one as well. Matthew is hilarious and he's definitely a great guy. Dee, despite her insecurities, is a great match for him. They have some incredibly explosive chemistry and just work really well together. Dee's quirkiness is something that draws Matthew in and they just have such a good time together. I loved seeing their relationship develop from just sex to more.

 

 

Eventually, we crawl into the bed, and lay next to each other—me stretched out, Dee in the fetal position.

“This is all your fault,” Dee whimpers.

“You’re right. You’re so right.” “

I hate you. No—I don’t mean that, I like you so much. I think I’m dying, Matthew.”

“You’re not dying. But I might be dying.”

 Even though we’re naturally stronger than women, it’s common knowledge that men are ten times more affected by illness. Just ask your husband or your boyfriend.
