Hi guys! Things will be slowly changing here on the blog, as you'll see in the coming weeks. I still enjoy doing my memes and I love incorporating other bookish fun, so don't worry about that!
Since I love doing my Tasty Tuesdays, I thought I'd feature some NYC restaurants I've visited since I've relocated (besides my typical Chipotle, Moes, and Panda Express!)
In this post I will also include some fun new things I've done here in the City over the last few weeks! I hope that's ok with you guys! :)
Let's start with the food! I've been to several really great places here in the City! Some I'd definitely go back to and some are a little on the pricier side, so I don't know how often I'll get to hit those up again.
(I'm super bummed I didn't take photos to accompany my meals! I'll try to remember to do that in the future and IG it.)
Let's start with my neighborhood in Astoria, Queens!
First up we have Homemade TaquerÃa. I am always on the hunt for good Mexican food. There was a place in TN called Oscar's and I LOVED their chicken nachos. They used to give you SO MUCH FOOD, so I was looking for somewhere here to replicate that. I haven't quite found it in this place, but I LOVE their guacamole salsa. SO good. Their nachos and tacos are quite tasty too. It's super close to my place and pretty decently priced. It's a new fan favorite of mine.
Next we have Rosario's! Thank you Yelp! You are my dearest friend for helping me find this authentic Italian deli/market/place of amazingness. I got their 'Famous One', which was a chicken cutlet, prosciutto, mozzarella, and roasted red peppers sandwich. Oh my goodness y'all. SO GOOD. It's a little out of the way for me, but it's on my way to my favorite park in the City, so I'm sure I'll be back.
Next up, we have Midtown! I work here so I've gotten to try quite a few places.
Teresa is completely to blame for this obsession. She brought us all here during BEA 2014 and I LOVED this place. Their burritos are delish and their margaritas are AWESOME. This location is pretty small, at least if you want to sit inside. Outside, it's not usually as bad of a wait.
There might very well be better soup places out there, but I remember being sick one day and just needed something hot to make me feel better. I decided to try Hale & Hearty. I definitely enjoyed my soup and sandwich, even though it was a bit pricy for the amount I actually got. I got the Cream of Tomato with Chicken & Orzo, which was really good!
And let's begin our descent downtown for the last two!
I personally LOVED this place! I've been looking for a good fish and chips joint and this hit the spot for me! They have fried haddock, which I have been craving forever. (It's hard to get down South) While delicious, this place was pretty expensive, since your chips are separate from the fish. Still, I really liked it and do plan to go back!
Finally we have the Amish Market! My aunt came in town with her friends and we went there for lunch. I really enjoyed my salad from the salad bar! I've been craving salads since it's summer, so I'm definitely going back. I just found one somewhat close to where I work! YAY!
Some other places I've also visited...
(Their burger was pretty good, but I was all about the chocolate alcohol drinks!)
(I'd skip Carmine's. I didn't care for it at all.)
(LOVE their margherita pizza!)
(I LOVE SS's Black and White shakes. But I wasn't overly impressed with my burger... maybe I need to go back and try a different one....)
Ok, enough with food. Because I'm getting hungry and I already ate dinner!
I visited the Alexander Hamilton exhibit at the New York Public Library this past weekend! I loved learning more about my favorite founding father!
I also ventured out to Jacob Riis State Park in Rockaway. It was quite fun! My only issue (besides getting stuck in the rain and having to wait on a bus forever) was that there's not many food venues nearby. We had to take a bus down to find actual restaurants.
I've also been to Broadway in Bryant Park twice now and it's so much fun listening to these talented men and women coming out to perform for us! Last week I got to see Motown the Musical, The Fantasticks, Chicago, and Finding Neverland. Yesterday I saw Fiddler on the Roof, Les Mis, The Marvelous Wonderettes, Circue de Soleil Paramour, and Fuerza Bruta!
I have some exciting adventures coming up and more places to try so I will keep you updated!
Love this, Jess and I definitely want to see more of these kinds of posts here even though this one made me ridiculously hungry!
ReplyDeleteI expect you to take me to all these places when I'm down there!! JK! :P
I've been to NYC 3x so far and haven't been to any of the food/tourist-y places you spotlighted here^^ I suppose that's to be expected though, given how huge NYC is :D I'm hoping to possibly go again next year so I'll bookmarks your NYC posts and make a list of where I need to hit up. The Library obviously, is a priority! We wanted to go 2 years ago but didn't end up having the time.
ReplyDeleteOh and I'm looking forward to ALL the NYC posts you feel like doing girl :D
YAAS Blockheads and chocolate martinis for the win!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI love this! NYC is such a great city. I'm glad you're starting to feel at home AND still going out to explore. I'm totally overdue for a visit, but it's going to have to wait until the weather cools down some. I just can't with the heat. I've never spent much time pursuing the food in NYC, I'm usually happy to just grab a couple slices of pizza. (I'm so NOT a foodie.) But, I've eaten at Shake Shack and I enjoyed it. I mean, the burger was ok. The shake was worth the wait – which wasn't the typical winding line halfway through Madison Park wait. I've eaten at Carmines in DC a few times – it's a favorite spot in my office but I have no clue why. I didn't think their food was that good.
ReplyDeleteLove this post! I can't wait to see more!
