Trying her best to mend a broken heart, Ivy Grace travels to hot and sultry New Orleans, the set of her latest novel turned movie. There, she does her best to focus on polishing up the screenplay when the film's lead actress goes missing. Throw in a budding romance with the movie's heartthrob and the reappearance of an old flame, and Ivy's strength, resolve, and heart are put to the test as she works to solve the mysterious kidnapping.
The undercover witch, who craves a regular life, learns she will need more than her Time Spell to fight the evil plaguing New Orleans. New spells, new adventure, and new love take Ivy on a whirlwind journey of magic that unlocks more questions than answers.

My Review:

After having read and enjoyed the first book in the Ivy Grace Spell Series, I was very excited to receive a copy of the second, Cover Spell, for review. T.A. Foster has developed a fun, paranormal series that revolves around Ivy Grace- a writer who also happens to be a witch. In both books, Ivy finds herself amidst mysterious happenings and ends up playing detective to figure out what is going on and if paranormal forces are at work.

In this book, as the blurb states, she is spending time in New Orleans with her new script turned movie production. She is still hurting over the events that occurred at the end of Time Spell and New Orleans proves to be the perfect distraction from her now non-existent love life. Or is it...?

The biggest surprise of this book is the reemergence of her ex-boyfriend and love Finn. Oh, Finn. I really liked him, but he was really hard to get a read on. Ivy is very wary of him, as he has broken her heart once before. I don't blame her for being cautious and always questioning his motives. He claims he wants her back, but she can't go through the same heartbreak she did before. Trust is not something that she can afford to give Finn, even though I really liked them together.

I am really excited to read Finn's book next because I think there's a whole other layer to him that needs to be discovered! I want to know more about his Shadow Quest and find out what his true feelings for Ivy are. Like I said, I felt it was hard to figure him out- what was real and what wasn't.

Foster is a very descriptive writer and she gives Ivy such a fun voice. It comes across as a bit cheesy at times, but overall I was as fully invested in solving the crime as Ivy was.

I did miss Jack in this book though. He played a major role in the first book, but only makes a cameo in this one. I felt bad for Ivy because she had to make some really difficult decisions, but I admire that she would sacrifice her own happiness for the protection of one she cares about. The ending definitely leaves us open as to where Foster will take Ivy's romance next and I can't wait to find out, as well as join her for the next case!

~Guest Post: Love, Love, Love Lessons by T.A. Foster~

Without a doubt, the questions I get asked the most by readers pertain to the romance elements in my writing—specifically, is any of this real? I bet other authors would agree that this is the most popular topic from readers. People want to know if there is a Finn or a Jack out there roaming the streets of Sullen’s Grove or if an ex-boyfriend has found his way into the pages of one of my books. The truth is, I believe you write best about the experiences you know.
There is a song called, “The Best Songs Come From Broken Hearts.” Silly as it sounds, it could not be truer. Many a broken heart has produced timeless poetry, number one radio hits, and some bestselling novels. Heartbreak, if you’ve truly experienced it, will resonate with readers when they dive into your story.

In Cover Spell, there is a guy who Ivy is in love with and has been for years. But, this guy isn’t perfect and he has his own issues to deal with, mainly a Shadow Quest. (I don’t want to give too much away for those of you who haven’t read it yet.) When I was dating, my friends and I would analyze and dissect why one of us was suddenly single. We knew the problem was not on our end because we were fabulous and amazing. What was his problem? Scared of commitment? Not over his ex? Not mature enough to handle a relationship? You name it; we diagnosed him with it. Basically, it all came down to whatever his “Shadow Quest” was.

Marriage gives you amazing twenty-twenty vision and now it is easy for me to see. Sometimes all it is, is just bad timing. The heartbreak and ache of the past is a never-ending well of inspiration for plots, characters, and some epic love stories. So look out for bits and pieces of my love life to be dabbled in to some of my upcoming stories (exes beware!).
