From USA Today bestselling author Lisa Desrochers, comes the third book in her sizzling New Adult series.

If you play with fire…

Tossed out of college and cut off by her parents, Samantha West is in pretty dire straits. So when her rocker best friend hooks her up with a job dancing at a gentlemen’s club, who is she to turn it down? Plus, there are rules to dancing at Benny’s: No touching, keep your clothes on at all times, and never get closer than three feet. Unfortunately for Sam, her first private client makes her want to break every single one of them.

Harrison Yates is scorching hot, but he’s got a past that involves being left at the altar not too long ago. Sam is determined to make him forget about his ex, but when she makes her move, it flings her life into a spiral of chaos she never saw coming.

Because Harrison Yates isn’t who he seems to be. And his secret will probably get her killed.

I really had no idea how this story would play out. The blurb definitely doesn't give much away so to avoid any spoilers I won't be disclosing much in regards to the plot. Let me put it this way. At around 27% I think my mouth literally dropped open in shock. And I may or may not have used an expletive. Or two. With that being said, I definitely enjoyed the premise and direction of this book even if some aspects reminded me of another book I had read not too long ago. Desrochers made this plot her own and I really liked the direction she took it. Sure, some of it was on the predictable side, but as I said above, there were a few WTF moments.

I wasn't sure how I would like Sam's character in this book. In A Little Too Far, I didn't want to like her very much because she was interested in Trent as well and I wanted him and Lexie together from the very start. Sam has every right to be angry with the two of them, as she feels betrayed by her best friend and the guy she was really falling for. Since then her life has really spiraled out of control and I really felt for her. Not only has she lost her best friend and the guy she liked, but her family hasn't been overly supportive either and told her she needed to move out. Now, jobless and homeless, Sam turns to her friend Jonathan for help. Jonathan is a musician and knows how hard up Sam is. He ends up helping to get her a job at a gentleman's club, where she will dance and hopefully earn tips that way.

Sam is a fighter. I loved that the most about her. She seriously has some really crappy luck, but doesn't give up and wallow away in self pity. She does what she needs to do and while she isn't entirely comfortable dancing for men, she ends up making the most of it. And boy does she ever. Especially when she zones in on an extremely attractive guy out in the audience. Dancing for him is easy- she feels sexy and definitely works it up on stage when he's there. He also notices her and ends up paying for a private dance with her. You can tell right away Harrison is not one of those slimy, gross guys that usually frequent the club. Instead of dancing for him, the two end up talking. The sexual tension between them is definitely steamy but only can go so far. Clients and dancers are not allowed to interact, but Sam and Harrison find the lines blurring the more he comes back and spends time with her.

I liked Harrison's character. He was a good listener for Sam and was understanding of what she was going through. He didn't make her feel cheap, despite her current job status.

Sam and Harrison's relationship is anything but easy. It fact, it's incredibly complicated and only gets more so as the book progresses. Harrison has not been completely honest with Sam and things really start to spiral out of control. She is beyond pissed and hurt, as she thought the two shared a connection. As much as she wishes Harrison would just leave her alone, he can't, and the two find themselves stuck in a less than ideal situation. Tension is so high (and not just the sexual kind either) and it was fun watching to see who would crack under pressure first.

Again, Sam's life is thrown into chaos and yet she still manages to roll with the punches. I completely admire her for everything she's gone through and how she ends up handling everything. As hurt as she is by Harrison, she still is able to see him as the good guy he really is and eventually comes to an understanding regarding him. After having felt deceived by so many people she cares about, she feels Harrison's deception is the last straw and that is why she was so blind to the depth of his true feelings towards her.

I loved that Desrochers has created such strong, but vulnerable characters in Sam and Harrison. They are definitely a new favorite couple and their scenes together were so laced with tension and deliciousness I felt I would combust. I really liked that the plot was more action packed and filled with suspense than the other two and I just thought it felt fitting of Sam's crazy life. I definitely recommend picking this book up! While the other characters from A Little Too Far and A Little Too Much make a brief cameo, it's not necessary to read the other two first to understand this book.

Have you ever gone just a little too far?

Lexie Banks has.

Yep. She just had mind-blowing sex with her stepbrother. In her defense, she was on the rebound, and it’s more of a my-dad-happened-to-marry-a-woman-with-a-super-hot-son situation. But still, he’s been her best friend and confidant for the better part of the last few years … and is so off limits. It’s a good thing she’s leaving in two days for a year abroad in Rome.

But even thousands of miles away, Lexie can’t seem to escape trouble. Raised Catholic, she goes to confession in hopes of alleviating some of her guilt … and maybe not burning in hell. Instead, she stumbles out of the confessional and right into Alessandro Moretti, a young and very easy-on-the-eyes deacon … only eight months away from becoming a priest. Lexie and Alessandro grow closer, and when Alessandro’s signals start changing despite his vow of celibacy, she doesn’t know what to think. She’s torn between falling in love with the man she shouldn’t want and the man she can’t have. And she isn’t sure how she can live with herself either way.

In the follow-up to Lisa Desrochers’ explosive New Adult novel A Little too Far, Alessandro Moretti must face the life he escaped and the girl he loved and left behind.

Twenty-two year old Hilary McIntyre would like nothing more than to forget her past. As a teenager abandoned to the system, she faced some pretty dark times. But now that’s all behind her. Hilary has her life on track, and there’s no way she’ll head back down that road again.

Until Alessandro Moretti—the one person who can make her remember—shows up on her doorstep. He’s even more devastatingly gorgeous than before, and he’s much too close for comfort. Worse, he sees right through the walls she’s built over these last eight years, right into her heart and the secrets she’s guarding.

As Hilary finds herself falling back into love with the man who, as a boy both saved and destroyed her, she must decide. Past or future? Truth or lies?

  2. See I always worry with books like this.. ones that take a character from anther book that I didn't like aka Sam- and make them the heroine. You know I loved Trent and therefore I wanted Sam to get out of the way of him and Lexie haha BUT clearly I have nothing to worry about because you loved it. It sounds like Lisa handled this switch well. I need to catch up and read A Little Too Much and then make time for this one. Great review!

    1. LOL. My only drawback was that for the beginning I had serious deja vu of Lover Undercover by Samanthe Beck. But once I got past that, it was amazing! And WOW. I don't get pulled off guard very much with books (probably because I cheat and read the endings sometimes) but WHOA. This one my jaw literally dropped.

  9. Great Review! I loved this story too much, and I was completely caught off guard with my mouth hanging open, and saying, "No Way," at the beginning. These two shared such an intense chemistry, and I loved waiting to see who was going to crack first also. I really love this series :)
