"Life is messy. Love is messier." -Catch and Release

Meg Adeio has led a life of isolation—not by choice, by necessity—until one act of heroism forces her out of seclusion. Despite a past shrouded in mystery, Meg is “adopted” by an eclectic group of friends that become the family she never had. Life was good for the first time in…ever.

Or it was until Westly Black reappeared on her doorstep. She knew he was the last man any woman should give her time to—only good for one thing—yet a temptation no woman could deny. Wes might make her life messy, but Meg’s eyes were wide open and she had it under control. At least she thought she did.

When past and present collide, loyalties are tested, forcing Meg to sacrifice her future to protect those she loves.

Temper For You is a gripping story of regret, deception, and redemption – filled with raw emotion, sarcastic wit, intrigue, and love’s propensity to forgive.

After reading and loving Genna Rulon's Pieces For You, I could not wait to get my hands on Meg's story! We met her in the previous novel and I was looking forward to seeing who would be the one to pull her out of her shell. I never imagined it would be Westly Black, who we also previously met.

Meg certainly has a story to tell. She keeps people at a distance, as she never knows when she might need to cut off all ties and leave her current life behind. My heart ached for her, as she has some things in her past that she can never escape from. She compares herself to a rotten apple, as she thinks she does nothing but contaminate others around her. Ev, Hunter, Sam, and Griffin have forced their way into her life and refuse to let her isolate herself. They have formed a small family together and their interactions are so heart-warming and the support system they offer one another is so positive and uplifting.

Meg and Wes have some history together already, but their history is short-lived, as Wes is a defense lawyer and was involved in Sam's case. Now, he has moved in next door and he still can't get her out of his head. He isn't interested in relationships, preferring the company of women only to satisfy his needs and then move on. With Meg, he is determined to make her his and get her in his bed, so he can move on from the tempting woman he shared a date with previously. Meg is extremely resistant to Wes at first, refusing to let her desires overcome her mind. However, Wes is one persistent man, and with the help of some very meddling friends, ends up getting his way.

Meg and Wes have some super hot chemistry together and while neither one is looking for a relationship, they definitely don't lack passion together. The more time spent together, the more they realize they actually enjoy each others' company and being involved in the others' lives. Meg is still holding a lot back from Wes though, so the deeper they fall, the bigger this issue becomes for them to overcome.

Meg's past is one that I could never even fathom to understand, not having ever been in a similar situation. I started to have my suspicions about what it was she was running from, but was still really surprised by the big reveal. The detail Rulon goes into is quite impressive and I think she definitely did her research concerning Meg's past.

I really enjoy Rulon's stories and I think she has a really fun writing style at the same time she does a serious, emotional one. Sam is always entertaining and I love GriffLo and Huntleigh. I'm glad she is going to have them play a role in the next novel of the series. I am also looking forward to her spin off series that will involve Wes's friend Ry.

Overall, I enjoyed Temper For You, and I am glad I had the chance to read this one!

Pieces For You is a captivating journey of survival, healing, and sacrifice—teeming with honesty, humor, unexpected twists, and love’s unsurpassed endurance.begin to plague Sam, it is Griffin she is forced to turn to.

I am still blown away by this book. I enjoyed the first in the series, but I absolutely adored this one. I was definitely nervous upon starting it, as I knew this was Sam’s book and Sam underwent some serious trauma in the last book. This book focuses on her healing from her ordeal and learning how to cope with life after. I loved Sam’s spunk and fun-loving, sarcastic attitude in the last book. She is definitely the more adventurous one between her and her best friend Everleigh and her enthusiasm is contagious. However, everything has now changed for Sam. Her road to recovery will not be an easy one, but thankfully she has such an amazing support system in her best friend Everleigh and her best friend’s boyfriend Hunter. These two love her dearly and are the family she never had with her own parents. Helping Sam is an adjustment for them, as they also must learn how to best help Sam move past what happened.
I liked Hunter and Ev from the first book, but I think I fell in love with them in this one. They are really meant for one another and I love seeing them devoted to each other. Their PDA is even adorable! I liked Hunter in the first book, but I mentioned I had a hard time falling for him, as he was forced to keep himself at a distance. I love how protective he is of both Ev and Sam and how affectionate and caring he is with both of them. He knows Sam is essentially Ev’s sister and he really swoops in as a big brother figure to her. And Huntleigh? OMG- I loved how Sam referred to them as that. It never ceased to make me giggle everytime she said it.
Which brings me to Griffin. Oh, boy. I would give a kidney to be with a man like him. Seriously. We meet him briefly in Only For You, and we can see his attraction to Sam, but nothing comes of it, as she starts dating a guy named Robbie. Griffin ends up being a good friend to Ev and then later Hunter and now the three are inseparable. They even have Thursday night dinners together, which I thought was adorable. The entire time Sam was away, Griffin worried over her and hated not being able to be there for her. He is just a good man through and through and my heart would NOT stop fluttering the whole damn book! I also really like that Rulon included a few chapters in his POV too. Once Sam returns, Griffin really becomes her rock and another source of strength in her life. She has a lot to overcome and Sam is still a stubborn girl- she doesn’t want to completely depend on anyone and is determined to be able to do things for herself. Watching her repair and rebuild is incredible and I love that she refuses to let what happened dictate her life. She refuses to hide away and let others intimidate her- this is where we see her start to piece herself back together. While she will never be the same, she learns how to forge Old Sam with New Sam and find a balance between the two.
Griffin and Sam’s relationship is by far one of my all time favorites. He is exactly what she needs and it is with his guidance, patience, and love that she finds motivation to do what she needs to. He is determined to earn her trust and not take their relationship too fast too soon. These two definitely undergo their share of obstacles, and there were a few chapters where I felt my heart had been sliced to ribbons. Rulon brought the perfect amount of steam and I was completely satisfied with their physical and emotional relationship.
Sam’s parents are definitely a piece of work. Wealthy, arrogant, and only concerned about their name- they are the opposite of loving, nurturing parents. I absolutely hated them and how they blatantly disregarded their daughter and her needs. This is another reason why the bond between Hunter, Ev, Griffin, and Sam is so incredible and heartwarming. I love watching the four interact and spend time together.
Overall, this book had everything I could ever want- characters I was invested in and cared for, great character development and growth, incredible romance, as well as the underlying mystery surrounding threats Sam has been receiving due to her refusal to bury the truth of what happened. The pacing was perfect and I didn’t feel the dialogue was as descriptive or formal as it was in the last book.
We are also introduced to another side character, Meg- who works with Ev and Sam at the coffee shop, and I am hoping book three is about her! We are given a bit of insight into Meg’s home life and a quick allusion to her past and this girl needs her a HEA! She is beautiful, sweet, and incredibly brave and I love that all of Rulon’s female MC’s are like that.

“In its purest form love is self-sacrificing, eternal, selfless, enduring, truthful, forgiving and indulgent. It also feels an awful lot like a kick to the stomach when you try to fight it!“

All Everleigh Carsen wanted to do was complete her final semester at Hensley University and begin the life she carefully planned. When a wave of violent crime seizes campus, Everleigh is persuaded to attend a school sponsored self-defense seminar by her best friend, where she meets volunteer instructor, Hunter Charles. After Everleigh’s biting sarcasm induces Hunter to eject her from class, a tempestuous relationship is born.

Everleigh is determined to forget the striking man, but fate–that fickle shrew–continuously intervenes. Unable to escape him, she declares Hunter an enemy combatant. The only complication… Hunter is resolutely pursuing vindication…by any means necessary. Verbal warfare ensues, and despite Everleigh’s ingenious efforts, in Hunter, she has finally found her equal.

Only For You is a compelling tale of friendship, desire, and redemption--brimming with intelligent characters, witty dialogue, unexpected twists, profound sorrow, unfettered hope, and love’s unassailable perseverance.

Note:  Although this is series, each novel can be read as a stand alone.

My Review:

I had not heard of this book until I saw a few of my fellow #GwB girls had received this for review from Genna. After hearing them rave about how much they liked it, I knew I had to give it a try! The opportunity presented itself a few days later when I saw Literati Author Services was doing a tour for it! I immediately jumped on board because I had to see for myself why my friends were going crazy over this book. I was immediately pulled into the story and I really like that it had a more serious undertone to it than most of the NA books I read.

This is so much more than a romance. In fact, Rulon has created a very scary, very realistic story that could potentially happen anywhere and that is what made it all the more chilling. I feel she did a very good job of blending the main character's romance with the mystery surrounding the attacks and assaults happening on the Hensley campus.

I liked our main character Everleigh. She is smart, has a good head on her shoulders, and a good friend to others. She is sarcastic and witty and her ongoing banter with her self-defense instructor/colleague Hunter Charles was one of my favorite parts to the story. Hunter and Ev do not start on the greatest of terms as she really lets her mouth run away from her in a serious environment. The danger to women at Hensley is very real and she knows that, but in trying to lighten the mood, she ends up on the receiving end of Hunter's no-nonsense attitude. I wasn't sure what to make of Hunter. He was a difficult character to get a read on. I liked him for the most part, but I didn't fall in love with him. I think part of it had to do with how Hunter came across, and while I understand why he came across as he did, it actually ended up dampening the flames for him.

I found myself frustrated with Hunter and Ev's relationship for the majority of the book. These two end up building a beautiful friendship that most people would die to have in their life, and I think that friendship was critical to the development of the story. However, as we are reading from Ev's point of view, it was frustrating because she clearly feels more for him than friendship. Some of the other characters noted that Hunter wanted her too, but I as a reader couldn't see that coming from him. I would have liked to have seen his POV thrown in to help me see that tension, that need for her from him. We do start to see his feelings change for her later on and he tries to impress upon her that nothing could happen between them at this time. However, he can't just let go of their friendship and keeping her safe is a huge priority for him. Even though Hunter was up front about his intentions, he still can't help but give in to temptation. I was proud of Everleigh for telling him what was up and that he couldn't continue to jerk her around.

We have some great secondary characters in this story as well. I loved Sam, Ev's best friend. She is a sweet, good friend and I love that their friendship has grown over the years. Sam undergoes ALOT in this book and I felt so much for her. I am really nervous to read the next book in the series, as it is about her and I know I am going to be an emotional wreck because of all that Sam endured in this one. Griffin is a bartender at the popular bar Sam, Ev, and crew hang out at, and he ends up being a real friend to Ev. He's really sweet and a good guy who would fight if a woman's honor is disrespected. He has a crush on Sam and while it doesn't escalate in this book, we will be seeing more of him in the next one.

I found myself completely engaged in the novel. I had my suspicions of who was behind the attacks, but Rulon still kept me interested and invested in what would happen to our main characters. Overall, this was a great read, despite a few minor issues with the characters and I did struggle a bit to get through some of the dialogue, as it could be overly descriptive at times. I do recommend this to my fellow NA lovers and I am excited to start Sam's story next!
