She's playing with fire...

Dog trainer Cara Bailey wants to find "the one," but fantasizing about her sexy-as-hell client, firefighter Travis Jansen, is getting in the way. Her only option? Get the confirmed bachelor out of her system-in every position possible-so she can settle down with Mr. Right. Starting right now.

Travis doesn't do relationships, so no matter how badly he wants the pretty little brunette, he keeps his distance. Until Cara goes and changes the game. She'll fulfill all of his fantasies if he agrees to walk away when it's over. But when the wildfire between them blazes out of control, it will consume everything-and everyone-in its path...

I remember reading the previous book in this series, Melt for Him, and I was hoping we would get Travis's story and now here it is! Yay! This made me really happy because I couldn't wait to see Mr. 'I Don't Believe in Relationships Because They Only End in Heartache' fall in love.

I really enjoyed Cara and Travis's story. These two have seriously hot chemistry and they have history as well, having dated in high school and having had a few hook ups since then. Naturally, you're rooting for them to get together for real and have it stick. Travis is like a lot of male leads we've read before, in the sense that he doesn't do relationships and can't offer anything more because he thinks he doesn't have more to give. Losing his father in the line of duty was a serious blow, as he saw just how much it impacted his mother and how deeply she retreated into her shell, leaving him to be the one to take care of himself and his younger sister. He saw how much his mother loved his father and how his death destroyed her and he doesn't want to ever put another woman in that position. So, while he is attracted to Cara, he knows what they have can only be physical, despite those niggling feelings that keep popping up the more he spends time with her.

I liked Cara. She wasn't a woman who played around. She knows what she wants for her life and she isn't going to let anything sway her from that plan. Not even a sexy as sin firefighter who she knows can ignite her like no one else can. Cara is a forever kind of girl. She isn't into one night stands and hook ups, so it's really out of character for her to propose they act on their attraction in order to get the other out of their systems. Too bad it doesn't quite work out that way. Spending time together naturally reinforces why they are so attracted to one another in the first place. It's so much more than physical and I really liked seeing those tender, sweet moments together. Not to mention, I love how she's helping him train his dog. It just adds this cuteness factor that made the dog-lover in me swoon!

We get to see Megan and Becker, as well as Smith and Jamie from the previous books, which I enjoyed because I love to check in with my couples and see how they are doing.

I really enjoy Lauren Blakely's books and this was no exception. The romance is sweet, the sexy times are off the charts hot, and the conflict is there, but not overdone to the point where you feel frustrated with the characters.

He knows exactly how to make her burn…

Fire captain and bar owner Becker Thomas usually spends his nights alone, trying to escape painful memories from his past. When he meets a sexy, free-spirited brunette outside his bar, he knows he’s found the perfect way to forget for one night. But when he later discovers the woman he’s itching for another night with is his best friend’s sister, everything comes to a halt.

Just out of a toxic relationship, Megan Jansen is only in Hidden Oaks to visit her brother, photograph the firemen’s calendar, and then slip off to another adventure. The brooding man who gave her the best sex ever is an unexpected surprise. The problem is, he’s her brother’s friend and a fellow fireman, and Megan’s rule is no firemen. She knows she’s going to get burned …but keeping their hands off each other is easier said than done.

I have to start by saying a big thank you to Lauren Blakely for the bringing the steam AND the swoon once again in Melt for Him! I am such a big fan of her books, so I jumped at the chance to read and review her latest Brazen.

Blakely has not only created an engaging storyline, but she has developed and created a set of enjoyable characters that I couldn't get enough of.  I really liked both Megan and Becker. Their attraction to one another is instant and their banter is both flirty and fun. Megan does not plan to stay in the town of Hidden Oaks for long. She is temporarily passing through her hometown before she embarks on a new adventure in Portland. After a scorchingly hot night together, both of them realize that one night wasn't enough and  find themselves craving more. Megan doesn't do firefighters though. After tragically losing her father as a child, she resolves never to get involved with someone whose life is constantly put at risk, as she saw her mother withdraw into herself after losing her father. Becker knows he should stay away from Megan as well, as he discovers she is his good friend, Travis's sister. Travis warns him away from Megan, as he doesn't want to see his sister hurt, as he knows Becker has his own demons from the past that still haunt him to this day.

Staying away from one another is easier said than done. The two already know how good it is together, so the temptation and the desire are already there and it's like trying to keep two magnets apart. I love their scenes together. They want to give in to one another so badly and just when they start to, they come to their senses and pull back. Those scenes were the hottest of them all, because you could feel the tension just come right off the pages!

As protective as Megan's brother Travis is, I really liked him. The two are very close and were each other's strength when they were younger when their mom had checked out after their father's death. I hope we get his book next! I also liked reading about Smith and Jamie. I am excited to go back and read their novella, Burn for Me!

Blakely is just one of those incredibly engaging authors and I love being pulled into her books. They always read very quickly for me and always bring plenty of sweet, sexy, and swoon-worthy times!

This is the conclusion of Julia and Clay's story that began in the New York Times Bestseller Night After Night.

"Why do you like me tied up sometimes?"
"Because the way I feel for you is so out of control that this is one way for me to feel in control again."

Their world was passion, pleasure and secrets.

Far too many secrets. But Clay Nichols can't get Julia Bell out of his mind. He's so drawn to her, and to the nights they shared, that he can't focus on work or business. Only her. And she's pissing him off with her hot and cold act. She has her reasons though-she's trying to stay one step ahead of the trouble that's been chasing her for months now, thanks to the criminal world her ex dragged her into. If only she can get out of this mess, then maybe she can invite the man who ignites her back in her life, so she can have him-heart, mind and body.
He won't take less than all of her, and the full truth too. When he runs into her again at her sister's wedding, they have a second chance but she'll have to let him all the way in. And they'll learn just how much more there is to the intense sexual chemistry they share, and whether love can carry them well past the danger of her past and into a new future, after this night...

Please note: This book is intended for 18+ due to dirty talk, light bondage, and lots of sexy scenes.

Don’t miss the prequel novella, FIRST NIGHT, and the first full-length novel, NIGHT AFTER NIGHT, in the Seductive Nights Series!

Lauren Blakely is one of my go-to romance authors. She writes such likeable characters, creates fun and engaging storylines, and really knows how to bring the steam with her romance scenes. One of my absolute favorite things about Lauren's books is that they are all connected. Her books can be read as stand-alones, but those of us who have read Lauren's other books/series will recognize certain strangers and places in her books and I really loved that about this one especially.

Storyline: I was fortunate enough to read this book immediately after Night after Night, so there wasn't too much waiting involved for me in regards to Julia and Clay's story. While the first book didn't end on a cliffhanger per say, it did leave you a bit unsettled as to their future. Julia is unable to open up to Clay about the mess she's involved in and Clay refuses to let himself go down a path with a woman whose life is filled with secrets and lies. However, some connections can simply not be broken. The two have realized they both have so much more than just great sex. They enjoy one another's company and are coming dangerously close to falling for one another. However, if Julia cannot open up to Clay and trust in him completely, there is no hope for the two.

Characters: I really like that Julia is such an independent woman. She is protective of her family and friends and refuses to let her mess seep into their lives. However, when Clay enters the picture and she realizes the depth of her feelings for him, she should have sought help from him, as she really is in a potentially dangerous situation. I felt for Julia, as she has been screwed over by her ex and left to deal with the fallout, thus causing her to constantly be on her guard and looking over her shoulder. Her loved ones are threatened if she doesn't comply and she just feels trapped. Meeting Clay in her bar was never supposed to turn into what it did, but now that it has she can't help wanting to clear her debts so she can move forward.

I really liked Clay's character too. He is a man who knows what he wants and goes after it. And he wants Julia. But he wants ALL of her. He is frustrated and upset that she is keeping secrets, especially after what secrets and lies did to his previous serious relationship. He won't go down that road again and he makes it clear upfront that he won't tolerate evasiveness. As much as Clay's decision at the end of the previous book sucked, I totally get it and I can't say I blame him. He put his cards on the table and the ball really is in Julia's court.

Romance: I enjoyed Clay and Julia's romance, even though I didn't connect to them as a couple on the level that I would liked. They have a lot of steamy, sexy scenes and their chemistry is undeniable. I liked seeing their relationship progress from sex to more. They find themselves craving the others' presence and simply wanting to spend time together. There are several email interactions between the two in this book and I really loved reading those. They are sexy and fun with serious undertones and I really just enjoyed the flirtatious banter these two have going on.

Final Thoughts: I was very happy with the conclusion to Julia and Clay's story. I am glad we got resolution for these two characters and I loved seeing the other characters from Lauren's novels make an appearance- McKenna, Chris, Cam, Davis, as it just put a smile on my face.

I am really looking forward to Michele's story, as my heart ached for her. She also deserves happiness and love and I am looking forward to seeing that in the next book!

“I wish I were there wearing your clothes right now.”

He laughed. “That’s what you want to be doing? Because I’d like to be fucking you if you were here.”

“Well, that too. But then I’d put on your shirt.”

“You like that, don’t you?”

“I know you do too,” she said.

“I do. Seeing you in my shirt and your heels is my kryptonite.”“

Oh, is that it? That’s your kryptonite?”

“Or maybe it’s just that you are,” he whispered, admitting more than he wanted to.“I think the same could be said here.”

There was a pause, and though they were three thousand miles apart, the silence was heady. He was in a drugged-out state tonight. This woman was his pill, and closeness with her was what he craved most even as he feared she would destroy his heart. Smash it to a million tiny pieces and eat it for lunch. But he had a built-in barrier in distance, and with no trips to San Francisco on his immediate calendar he saw nothing wrong with this temporary moment of relief from the pressure inside of him from wanting her. They couldn’t be together in any meaningful way, and he couldn’t get hurt if he didn’t actually see her. Right? Right, he answered for himself.

"What are we doing, Julia?” he asked, and he was sure she could hear the longing in his tone, but he didn’t care. There was no need to hide it after they’d just broken down and pleasured themselves together.

“I wish I knew,” she said, her voice wistful and full of yearning. “I really wish I knew.”

He heaved a sigh, trying to sort out his thoughts, but his brain was a mixed-up mess and he didn’t know how to untangle all the threads. Or if he wanted to remain tangled up with her instead.

“What are you going to do when we hang up?” he asked, changing direction.

“Read a book.”

“What are you reading these days?”

“A crazy story about a guy who treks across Antarctica.”

“That does sound crazy.”

“Yeah. He’s kind of hallucinating and talking to penguins right now,” she said with a small laugh.

“Can you blame him? I have to imagine if you’re stuck in the polar ice cap that talking to penguins might be a rare source of comfort.”

“As long as he doesn’t eat the penguins I’ll keep reading it.”

“Here’s to no penguin meals in the books we read.”

“What will you do?”

“I suspect I will fall fast asleep and dream of a beautiful redhead on the other side of the country.”

“She would like that dream very much,” she said in a sweet voice, the kind that worked its way beneath all the hard edges in him, and settled deep in his heart. “Will I talk to you again soon?”

He took a fueling breath, and put his armor back on, steeling himself. “I don’t know the answer to that.”

Every Second With You = Sex. Love. Addiction. Heartache. Pain. And Hope.

In the sequel to the bestselling THE THRILL OF IT, Harley and Trey face new challenges that will make battling blackmail, sex addiction, and a virgin call girl past look easy…

I used to think love was a lie. Now I know it’s real, powerful, and I don’t want to lose it…But my future scares me, and there’s no way this can be happening, especially since I’ve finally broken free from all the people who wanted pieces of me. I don’t even know how to start over, but I have to find a way. So when I discover what my mother’s been keeping from me, it doesn’t make me hate her. It gives me hope for a new life, outside of New York. But the ties that bind me to this city are so strong, sometimes they are chains. If only I could leave with…

Trey...

I will do anything for her. She owns me, heart, mind and body. But when Harley tells me this, I am rocked to the core, and terrified of what happens next. Especially when this time it’s not her past that chases me, it’s someone from my own. And that someone is messing with my head when I’m trying to be strong for Harley. But all I really want is to escape with the girl I love…For the rest of our lives.

How can you move forward when the past keeps chasing you?

"Because it was mad love, crazy love, insane love. Because it was hard love, good love, true love. Because it was the real thing, and a love like that can't be stopped. A love like that is inevitable."

There's a reason Lauren Blakely is one of my favorite authors. She not only creates fabulous stories, but her writing is beautiful. The above quote literally took my breath away as it was so all-encompassing of Harley and Trey's journey of love together. I love that Lauren took this series in a new, darker direction creating two beautifully broken characters and putting them back together again by helping them embrace the 'ugly beautiful' of life.

Harley has grown so much as a character from when we first met her. After years of living her life as a call girl, she now has found a man who loves and cherishes her and would walk to the ends of the earth for her. Harley has never known true love before Trey, never believing herself capable of giving and receiving it. I am so proud of Harley for the woman she's becoming and how she is working hard to break the chains of her past. She still has moments of insecurity and struggles with whether or not she can truly break free of the addict life she once lived, but with Trey has her balance- the two can work through those insecurities.

At the end of The Thrill of It, Harley discovers something life-altering that could shatter everything she has worked so hard to build with Trey. This event plays a huge role in this book and while Trey does not handle it perfectly, I am glad he doesn't slip back into old comforts and temptations to deal. There was a moment where I was literally shaking my head, as if he had traveled down that road, I wouldn't have been able to forgive him. Enough about the what-ifs. Let's talk about fact: Trey is absolutely an amazing man for Harley. There is no better person to complement her and I love how protective and in love with her he is. He, like her, is also a recovering addict. He too harbors his own fears about his and Harley's future, but he doesn't let them control him. He did have another moment with Harley that made me want to hit him myself, because it was such a side to Trey we have never seen. It was definitely an uglier one but I was so glad Harley stood up and told him like it was. You go girl! The beautiful moments with Trey far outweigh the less than shiny ones though.

Harley's mom is back in this novel as well, and while she claims she wants to make amends with her daughter, Harley cannot find it in herself to forgive the woman who would hide things from her and be held part responsible for Harley's call girl days. Harley's mother has also kept something very important from Harley and when Harley discovers what it is, she is even more angry and hurt with her mother.

One of the things I love about reading a Lauren Blakely book is that you KNOW there will be sexy times. And in abundance! Trey and Harley have so much passion and love for one another and reading their sexy scenes was heart-stopping. Lauren knows how to bring the steam without making it seem too excessive or thrown in needlessly. Every time Harley and Trey came together was because of their absolute need to solidify and show their love for one another.

I absolutely adored the conclusion to Trey and Harley's story. I felt it was so fitting for them as a couple and we really get to see the full circle these two have come. I love that they are making decisions that are best for them and I feel they did exactly as they should have in the end. There are so many scenes that will bring a smile to your face in this book and your heart will be satisfied and full at the end. I can't wait for what Lauren does next!

A new adult story of Love. Sex. Addiction. Blackmail. And Power...

Some say love can be an addiction. Others say it's the thing that makes life worth living. Let me tell you everything I know about love...Love isn't patient, love isn't kind. Love is a game, a chase. A thrill. Love is wild and war-like, and every man and woman must fight for themselves. At least that's how it was for me. A high-priced virgin call girl by the time I started college, I was addicted to love and to sex. Even though I've never had either. I controlled love, played it, and held the world in the palm of my hands. Then I fell down from those highs, and I'm being blackmailed for all my mistakes, forced to keep secrets from everyone, except the only guy I don't regret.

Trey...

With all the other women, I knew what they were. They were temporary. They were pills, they were bottles, they took away all the pain, and numbed the awful memories that wore down my ragged, wasted heart. Until I met Harley. She's the only girl I ever missed when she walked away. But now she's back in my life, every day, and there are no guarantees for us, especially since I don't know how to tell her my secrets. What happened to my family. All I know is she's the closest I've ever come to something real, and I want to feel every second of it.

How can you love with no regrets when regret is all you know?

My Review:

Lauren is usually my go-to author for when I am in need of a sweet, light romance. I usually read one of hers after having my soul shattered and my heart torn to pieces. So, when I first heard her discussing how this book would take a darker direction, I was a little nervous. I already knew how talented of a writer Lauren was and so I began to mentally prepare myself for the emotional toll this book would take. She completely blew this out of the water. I mean, WOW. Lauren has managed to create a story about two characters who are far from perfect and working to overcome their own addictions.  The Thrill Of It is dark, sexy, emotional, and shows us that second chances do exist.

Harley and Trey have both been dealt some rather difficult hands in life and everything that has happened has brought them to the same place. Harley's life changed the moment she set foot in the No Regrets tattoo parlor and laid eyes on Trey Westin, tattoo artist. For the first time ever, she finds herself wanting a man- not because she's been paid to, but because she is genuinely attracted to him. Harley has spent her teenage life working as a call girl. She is pimped out to the wealthiest of wealthy and indulges them in their rather, interesting fantasies. However, she has never let a man touch her intimately or had sex with any of them. After spending one amazing night with Trey, she walks out of his life and straight into love and sex addiction therapy.

"The guy from last night who inked my shoulder, and kissed my body, and who gave me something I've never felt before- touch without agenda. A true and real want. He didn't want anything more from me than me. It was such a foreign feeling, but such a wondrous one."

Harley never expected to run into Trey again. However, fate had other plans for these two. Trey walks into the same therapy session and both know they are in for one hell of a ride. They decide to be friends, since both know they can't go down that road of entertaining a relationship with one another. They're in therapy! Bah. Trey and Harley have the absolute sexiest chemistry ever. I knew it would only be a matter of time before these two cracked.

However, Trey and Harley are in therapy for a reason. They both have pasts that still haunt them and they want to get better. Fighting their addiction is an ongoing battle every day and after their decision to become friends- their friendship becomes so much more. They lean on one another and seek comfort and strength together. Harley has confided in Trey and he knows the ghosts of her past. Words of affirmation are what drive Harley. All her life, her mother has not acted like a mother to Harley. Instead, she treats her as a girlfriend would- talking about sex and things of that nature. Harley was never brought up in a loving, nurturing environment. Instead, she was brought up superficially- always being told how pretty she was, etc. All of this really played a large role in why Harley made the decisions she did. The only person who Harley felt true love and affection from was her pimp, Cam. I was quite concerned about Cam, because he gave me the creeps, but I think in his own way (as strange as it seemed), he really did care for Harley and want the best for her.

Trey. Oh, Trey. I absolutely loved this man. While Harley has bared her soul to him, he has not done the same to her. He is terrified he won't be able to withstand his grief if he opens up to her about what happened in his family. That grief is what led him to his sexual addiction. He likes the numbness that he feels and how the pleasure outweighs his grief. With Harley, he finds himself feeling again and wanting a relationship with her. He manages to hold himself back with her in the beginning, because he knows she is working so hard to be better. Harley is fragile right now and even the smallest thing can cause a setback for her. Trey does a better job of fighting his addiction but I was still so afraid he would fall back into old ways and hurt Harley.

As I said before, these two have amazing chemistry together. There is this magnetic pull between them to simply be near each other. They talk to each other constantly, spend their free time together, and always seem to find a way to touch each other- even if it's as innocent as holding hands. I hated how much self-doubt these two had. Neither one felt they were worthy of being loved or loving another and it really broke my heart. That moment where they both realized they couldn't deny their attraction or feelings anymore? Holy hell, I think my heart stopped.

"Here, where there is sex and love, and love and sex, and they don't just spill over into each other. They are one and the same with him."

Haley seems like a rather meek, fragile character when it comes to her mom, and I loved how she finally stood up to her in the end. She doesn't need her mother's validation anymore- she has Trey to help her keep the demons at bay. Standing up to her mom was a big step in Harley's recovery and even though Lauren left us with a bit of a cliffhanger ending, I have hope for Harley.

This is so much more than a romance, though. It's about the continuous battles these two will face and fight to overcome on a daily basis. Addiction isn't to be taken lightly and I'm amazed these two sought help for themselves instead of spiraling down into a place they couldn't come back from. However, addiction isn't the only battle these two fight. Family drama, blackmail, manipulation, and fear of relapse all plague our two protagonists. However, I am confident that together- these two can fight anything that's thrown their way.

"I am not my past. I am my present. I am my future. The past can chase you if you let it. You can spend your life trying to outrun it or you can stop running, turn around and look it in the face. I've stared down my past, and now I'm moving on. I am more than my past. I am my future and it belongs to me."

"Arcade Fire's music makes me feel as if I can feel. Like I'm feeling everything inside me that I don't usually let myself experience. The music does that to me, like it's turning me inside out."

Trey's shoulders relax and he grins. "I love that. I think music can be like that. That when you don't know what to do or say, sometimes you listen to a song and it makes you, I don't know, brave or crazy or just makes it seem like a bad day isn't so bad."
