Branson Wellington? The name, my name, is usually followed by arrogant prick or self-serving bastard, and I can't say I haven't earned those titles. It's true. I'm not the good guy. I'm not the boy next door. I'm definitely not your Prince fucking Charming. Not even close.

And I never wanted to be. Until her. The day I pulled her from the wreckage was the day that my life changed. Who would have thought that one little lie had the power to throw two lives off course? Love has never been in the cards for me, but now that she’s here, I have no idea how I’m ever going to let her go. Even if I don’t deserve her. Because like I said, I’m a self-serving bastard and some things never change.

“There are some questions I need to ask you, but we can do that in a little bit. Until then, is there anyone you want us to call? Someone on scene was able to find your purse, which fortunately hadn’t been destroyed in the blast. There was no emergency contact information in your purse, however, and you’ve only been out of surgery for a couple of hours. We haven’t been able to track anyone down as of yet.”

The last thing I want is Victoria and William showing up here, especially with Benjamin in tow. Not wanting to worry anyone, I decide I’ll call Alyssa once things calm down. “No, I’m not from around here, and the last thing I want to do is worry my family. When I’m feeling a little more rested, I’ll give them a call.” The nurse gives me an understanding smile, and I sigh with relief that she’s not going to push me on this. At least not yet.

“Okay, Ms. Covington. I understand completely. I’ll just set your purse here, and if you feel up to it, your cell is still inside. Now, I need to answer this page, but if you need anything in the meantime, don’t hesitate to hit the nurses’ call button. You may feel a little drowsy from the pain medication, so for now, try to get some rest.”

I watch as she leaves the room before I rest my head on my pillow, replaying the events of the past twenty-four hours. What should’ve been the prelude to one of the best days of my life has turned into a nightmare. Instead of wearing a white wedding dress, I’m stuck in a hospital gown. And even now, my fiancé—or, well, former fiancé—is the last man on my mind. No, instead, I’m thinking about the beautiful man who saved my life. Who once told me that he was beyond saving. The night I met Branson Wellington, he was a mess. A drunken, pitiful, angry mess. This evening, I saw no signs of that man. I saw confidence. I saw arrogance. I saw determination. But I also saw the pain, the anger, the frustration. That broken man is still in there no matter what strides he’s made since that night eight months ago. Tonight, he saved me. And even though he once said that it’s impossible, I’m making it my mission to save him, too.

I am such a sucker for a good redemption story. You know an author does a great job with their characters when they can transform a not so liked character into one we do! I was NOT a fan of Branson Wellington when I first met him in Incinerate. I mean, what kind of person betrays their own brother like that?! We see Branson again in the next book of the Explosive series, where we see him actually having a pretty compassionate moment with a very pregnant woman. That definitely endeared him a bit more to me. Conflagration is his story and now we get to see things from his side.

Branson is not a bad guy at all. Sure, he has his douche moments and he's made some mistakes in his life that weigh heavily on him. All he's ever wanted is to take control of his father's company and has worked hard to do so. When that is threatened, he doesn't handle things the way he should and makes a mistake that costs him his relationship with his brother. He is suckered into a loveless marriage and spends more time at the office than he does caring for his wife. He is once again a free man, but the damage has been done.

Branson isn't the self-serving bastard that he believes himself to be, however. Risking his life to save Ari's is one of the most selfless acts he's ever committed. He refuses to acknowledge himself as a hero or a savior of any kind though. I really liked Ari's character. After overhearing her fiancé having a rather rude conversation, Ari decides to take control of her own life. She won't be a pawn in anyone's game, and she certainly won't be a trophy wife trapped in a loveless marriage. Seeing Branson rush up to her car after the accident is a complete coincidence, as this isn't the first time these two have crossed paths.

They have some seriously hot chemistry together and I liked watching them struggle with what was real and what was just pretend. They both find themselves falling for one another and while they are afraid of what will happen when it ends, the two decide to live in the here and now, taking things one step at a time.

I loved seeing Branson mend fences with his family. Things between them have been tense in the past, so to see them come together as a unit and look after Branson is really sweet. Branson might act nonchalant on the outside, but you can tell their presence and acceptance of him really means a lot.

I did feel things progressed rather quickly in this book, however. Branson and Ari's arrangement is temporary, and he'll tell her so one minute, but then it isn't long after that he decides he doesn't want temporary. I also thought we would see a bit more of his transformation. Yes, he's not quite the guy he was when we first met him, but I expected to see more of that closed off guy. Instead, Branson is flirty and embraces his good guy side a lot faster than I thought we would.

Overall, I did enjoy Branson's story and I really like that Tessa doesn't go overboard with the angst and drama. It's a romance through and through with some trials and obstacles to overcome, and instead of having that constant back and forth it's rather straightforward and I liked that. I also love seeing familiar faces from the previous novels so we can see how they're doing. I do need to go back and read Cohen's story though!

Synopsis

After years of being called a tease and then being labeled the Virgin Queen, Andi Kane decides that when she goes off to college, she's ready to ditch the labels. She's grabbing the bull by its horns and riding as wild as she can. Fate must be smiling on her the night she meets Cohen Wellington, the cute boy-next-door and fellow music lover. Their connection is instant, and as the night progresses, she knows she's found The One. Only...it doesn't go exactly the way she had planned it. And even though she can't get him off her mind, some humiliations are just too much to overcome. She walks away, never planning to see him again. Three years and a whole lot of experience later, Andi and Cohen are suddenly drawn together again, and it doesn't take long before it's clear their connection is stronger than ever. Fate. Destiny. Kismet. Whatever you want to call it, these two fall hard and fall fast. Their love burns hot, but when their plans for the future seem to move in two different directions, will it be enough to sustain the flames, or will the fire consume them, their relationship combusting before their very eyes? Sometimes love comes quickly without question, without hesitation, and without fear. But this kind of love is once in a lifetime, and sometimes you just have to ask yourself, can it really last?

Excerpt

She stands up and begins looking around. “She was actually just here about ten minutes ago, but I told her you weren’t due in until one. She said she’d wait, but I don’t see her.” She continues looking until her eyes light up. “Oh, there she is. I’d spot that beautiful red hair anywhere. She’s at the table in the corner, her back turned to us.” At the mention of beautiful red hair, my heart nearly skips a beat. I mentally ridicule myself. I have no idea why I still think every single redhead I see is going to be Andi. As I turn to see where Mrs. Marsh is pointing, I easily spot the redhead. I’m about to thank her and head towards the back table when someone across from her nods in my direction. Slowly, she turns her head, and as our eyes meet, I can’t move from my spot. Less than twenty feet away from me is the girl I’ve been simultaneously looking for and avoiding for the past three years. The girl whose mixtape has nearly worn out from continuous play. The girl I’m supposed to tutor and not five minutes ago I made a vow to keep my hands off of. Less than twenty feet away from me is Andi. For the first time in over three years, I’m face to face with her. Ruby.

My Rating: 4/5 stars

Easy going soldier Kale Montgomery, a self-proclaimed ladies man, has no plans of settling down, especially not with his best friend- the sexy, sassy schoolteacher Lucy Dawson. Their relationship, though unconventional, is mutually beneficial, and they wouldn't have it any other way. Friends with benefits? Casual lovers? Whatever you want to call it, they’re having fun, in and out of bed, and to them, that’s all that matters. At least that’s what they think, but how long can you spend in someone's bed before you find they're also infiltrating your heart?

As their casual fling with no strings attached progresses, it's not long before they realize they're both in way over their heads. One fateful night changes their lives forever in ways they could never have imagined, giving them the push to finally admit that maybe, just maybe they want more than they’ve let on. Their mutual attraction rapidly intensifies as it shifts from burning lust to unrelenting want, need, and possibly even love. Suddenly the idea of settling down doesn't seem so bad. In fact, it sounds pretty damn perfect.

Just when things seem to be falling into place, past pain and renewed insecurities rise to the surface and threaten to smother the flames of their passionate relationship, reminding them both why they’ve always kept the idea of love at arm's length. Will Kale and Lucy realize that what they've been waiting for is each other, or will the blazing whirlwind of their feelings burn out too quickly, causing it to all go up in smoke?

How I feel when I see that Tessa is writing a new book/has a new book ready for me to read:

Seriously. I am all kinds of obsessed with her writing and her characters! I love that they take place here in TN and are centered around the military. We met our main characters Kale and Lucy in the previous book, Incinerate, and I was very curious about their 'relationship'. They have a friends with benefits deal going on, but as we read Inflame, their casual relationship becomes anything but.

I really enjoyed how Tessa took us back to see how Kale and Lucy met, how their arrangement started, and when it all began to change. I feel like that added insight into their characters and situation really added to the storyline.

Kale and Lucy decided to keep their relationship no-strings, as Kale is going to be deploying soon and neither want to be tied down to another. Both have some deeply rooted issues as to why they don't do serious relationships. However, Lucy isn't against trying to do one, and ends up dating her best friend Charlie's fiancé's cousin. Kale gets wind of this and instantly feels a punch to the gut, which makes him realize that his feelings for Lucy go deeper than he originally thought.

I really like that Teevan is so low on angst. She doesn't make us wait forever while Kale and Lucy play cat and mouse with one another in regards to their feelings. Kale is pretty damn stubborn and isn't afraid to go after what he wants. Lucy is equally stubborn, which I loved, as she doesn't put up with any crap. She holds her own and that is one of the things Kale falls for immediately.

Kale and Lucy do face a pretty huge lifestyle change in this book. We get to see these two fall for one another and realize that they don't want to be with other people, as well as watch them deal with this big event. They are in this together and I just adored watching their relationship turn from a sexual one to a loving, nurturing one.

Kale's protectiveness is adorable at the same time it is infuriating. I probably would have thrown a few shoes at him if it were me. Still, Lucy takes it all in stride and doesn't let herself get aggravated with him too much. She never imagined she would need and crave Kale as much as she does and she is really a very lucky girl to have such a great guy. Kale is also lucky, as Lucy is just fun, feisty, and drama-free.

The two have their own obstacles to overcome, as they have never really opened up their pasts with one another. Kale knows he especially needs to come clean with Lucy and share his past, as it isn't right of him to keep something like that from her or have his mom and sisters feel pressure either. Lucy is instantly welcomed into Kale's family and I really loved seeing the dynamic between them. Kale has to work a little bit harder to win Lucy's mom over, but it isn't long before he charms her too.

We do get to catch up with Jace, Lexi, Charlie and Knox in this book and it just warms my heart to see them all together. I was also really pleasantly surprised by Branson and Cohen! They are only in the book for a short period, but wow- Branson has already redeemed himself in my eyes and I haven't even gotten his book yet!

I can't wait for Tessa's next book, as I just love being with these characters and watching them grow, interact, and find love for themselves.

She looks me over, and I love the fact that she’s checking me out. I don’t know why I’m so drawn to her, but I am, and I want to get to know her better, at least where the bedroom’s concerned. Eventually, she extends her hand, and I give a firm handshake, the kind she wanted when we first met. “Please, Kale, call me Lucy.”

Shaking her hand, I say it out loud. “Lucy. I like it.”

“That’s fortunate since I’m stuck with it. Okay, Montgomery. As much as I love flirting with a hot ass soldier in the parking lot of an elementary school, I’ve got to get going. Maybe I’ll see you around?”

She starts to walk away, but I grab her hand, reeling her back in. I’m not ready for her to go, yet I don’t want to seem like some crazy stalker guy. “Can I see you again? You know, outside of an elementary school?” I ask, my eyes bearing down into hers, begging for her to say yes.

She hesitates, and I’m afraid she’s about to say no when she finally responds. “I don’t date. I’m not looking for anything serious, so if that’s what you’re looking for, I’m the wrong girl.”

My cock practically sings at her words. A no strings attached relationship with a hot teacher right before I deploy? I couldn’t have asked for better luck. “I don’t do relationships, either, Lucy. I just want to get to know you and to have some fun. No feelings, no strings, no nothing,” I tell her, and watch as a look of relief washes over her.

She starts digging in her purse and I watch as she scribbles something on a piece of paper before hanging it to me. “Number’s right there. Call me when you’re feeling adventurous,” she says. Before I can say anything, she spins around and swiftly walks away, leaving me to wonder just how adventurous she can be.

When Knox Wellington opens the door to Charlie Davenport, he's not expecting the fiery brunette with whiskey colored eyes and a feisty personality. Sparks fly immediately, even though their initial meeting is nothing but hostile. Their chemistry is undeniable, but the chip on Knox's shoulder threatens to destroy any hope of him wooing the sweet, southern volunteer sent to help with his rehabilitation.

Little does he know she's no Southern Belle, as she gives as good as she can take. As unexpected circumstances push them closer together, heads butt, patience is tested, and flames ignite as they dance around their mutual attraction, both of them jaded from broken pasts.

They've both been burned before, so when their feelings of lust, desire, and wanting are inflamed in the heat of the moment, will they finally be able to get over the pain of the past or will their relationship be reduced to ashes before it can ever really begin?

*While this book is a standalone, characters from Ignite, book 1, will appear in Knox's story.*

Tessa Teevan couldn't have named this series any more appropriately! Both Ignite and now Incinerate are explosive reads and she is blazing her way onto the New Adult scene with romances that will heat your blood, make you swoon like crazy, and sigh in utter contentment. Both books are dual POV, which is always a favorite of mine, but she does such a great job of capturing the male voice. Reading about Jace and Knox felt realistic and I fell hard for both boys.

As much as I loved Jace and Alexa's story, I have to say- Charlie and Knox really take the cake. I loved their interactions and the fact that neither of them back down when it comes to what they think and feel. They complemented each other so well- both needed a strong partner to challenge them and be the other's strength in times of need. Being Teevan's sophomore novel, I already see how much her writing has grown and matured from Ignite. She is definitely one to keep your eye on folks!

Let's start with Knox, shall we? We first meet him while he is stationed in Afghanistan and after an explosion nearly takes his life, his last thoughts before drifting into unconsciousness are that he is absolutely and utterly alone. My heart instantly went out to the cynical, jaded man who has sworn off relationships and love after being badly burned by two people he loved and trusted in the past.

Knox has always been self-sufficient and being in this position of helplessness absolutely eats away at him. He is less than thrilled when he finds out his younger brother has hired someone to come help him out while he is recovering. To get his mind off everything, his brother and best friend take him out to a bar to live a little and let loose. Knox goes to appease his friends, but is pretty grumpy being out when he knows getting laid isn't really an option right now. A pretty brunette shows interest in him and introduces herself and he is pretty heartless with his brush-off. Imagine his surprise when the very same brunette he can't stop thinking about shows up on his door the next day!

Charlie and Knox do not get off on the right foot at all. He is moody and grumpy and manages to piss her off in the span of a few hours by sticking his foot in his mouth. They are undoubtedly attracted to one another, but Knox is pretty hot and cold with Charlie in the beginning and that drives her crazy. She never knows which Knox she's going to get, and I love that she stands her ground, but also knows when to walk away. Knox respects the hell out of Charlie and after he stops being a pain in the ass, the two end up becoming friends.

I loved Charlie's character. She is such a strong female lead despite the fact that she is still hurting over a recent betrayal herself. She doesn't let her weaknesses show and hides her broken heart behind her no-nonsense, tough exterior. However, I admire how strong she is and that she doesn't let her emotions control her, especially where her ex is concerned. There are certain things that are unforgivable in Charlie's eyes and infidelity is one of them. After being betrayed, trust is essential to her. She will not give her heart to someone she doesn't trust or doesn't trust her in return.

As I said earlier, this series is so aptly named because Charlie and Knox's relationship certainly is explosive. It's a slow burn though. Knox not only has some serious trust issues to work through, but he is adamant about the fact that he's not looking for a relationship. Charlie has to protect her heart so she doesn't end up hurt again. The build up between these two is extremely sweet and sexy at the same time. There were so many moments I literally had to stop reading because I was swooning so hard. Every time he called her sweetheart, I felt my heart skip a beat. And when he asks her to stay at the gym I felt like I was going to go into cardiac arrest! As I said though- Charlie will have to decide if she can risk giving Knox her heart and Knox will have to make the decision as to whether or not he can stand losing her. After years of spurning relationships and love, it's not something he can just jump right into. I felt Teevan paced this transition perfectly- it didn't feel forced or rushed, instead it felt just right.

Ignite fans never fear! We get plenty of Jace and Lexi in this book as well! Jace and Knox's friendship is one of my favorites, as they are more than friends- they are true brothers to one another. I also liked seeing how quickly Lexi and Charlie befriended one another and enjoyed both Knox and Charlie's friendship with Kale and I cannot wait for his and Lucy's story up next! These two have some pretty big obstacles to overcome and I am really excited to see what direction Teevan takes their story. There is also a pretty important emphasis on family in this book. Having been raised by just her father, he and Charlie are really close. Being an Army officer himself, he can be pretty intimidating when he wants to be, but really just wants the best for his daughter. Knox's family also play an important role in this story, as he only associates with his younger brother Cohen. He comes from a wealthy family, but has not spoken to his parents in years. As for his older brother Branson, well he's not someone Knox has any desire to speak to ever again. And I can't really say I blame him! However, I also am happy with the way Tessa handled that situation because life is too short to live with regret and grudges.

Overall, Incinerate had everything I look for in a romance- strong characters, good development, heavy sexual tension and chemistry, and a realistic plot where the characters face challenges and obstacles and still come out on top. I loved that this story was low in angst and that there wasn't a suffocating amount of drama. Oh and military boys! Let's not forget that! Always a plus! And can I just stop a minute to thank Tessa for making Knox a Vols fan? <3 <3 <3

Get this book ladies and gents- you won't be disappointed.

"I want more than that. I want you to be my girl. I want you in my bed, just like this. I want to take you out, show you off, and get all the jealous looks from other assholes who wish you were theirs. I want, more than anything, for you to be my sweetheart, because that's what you've become to me, even if I started saying it by being an ass. I want to be able to call you mine for real, not pretend." Sighing, I pause. "Charlie, I want- I need- you to be my fucking girl."

After nearly a year and a half of grieving the loss of her husband, twenty-seven year old Alexa Sullivan Tate is headed back to her hometown after a decade of being away. She has no idea her high school crush, Jace McAllister, the guy who stole her heart the same night that he broke it, is more than ready to pick up the pieces.

Jace has spent the last ten years in the Army defusing bomb after bomb, trying to forget the girl who ignited all his passions. Little does he know that the spark still exists.

Ten years ago they had smoldering chemistry, but the spark between them now might light a fuse that leads to an explosion even Jace can't stop. Not that he wants to. If only Alexa can get past her guilt and trust her heart again.

But how do you put it all on the line when you've already lost everything once before?

My Review:

Oh boy. Reading a book about an incredibly sexy Army boy is NOT a good idea for a single gal who doesn't live too far from an Army base. Just wanted to throw that out there. Ignite is a sexy, steamy, sweet read that will definitely get your blood pumping! I really enjoyed that it was relatively low in angst and that our love interest was such a good guy. Good guys are my new guilty pleasure so I can't get enough of them! Ignite, while sexy and steamy, definitely had its share of heartbreaking moments. My heart ached for Alexa and I can't even fathom what she was going through and how she dealt with such a crushing loss.

I really liked Alexa. She was a great protagonist and I definitely can understand her fear of letting someone get close to her again. After losing her husband to a car accident, Alexa is trying to cope with everyday life. The last words her husband spoke to her are on constant repeat in her brain and she's not handling his loss well at all. Her sister, Sierra, expresses her concern for her sister, telling her she can't mope around forever. Enough time has passed now and she tries to make Alexa understand that by remaining stagnant, she won't be able to heal and move forward. Sierra ends up asking Alexa to accompany her, her husband, and her daughter back to Florida for their 10 year reunion. Sierra asks Alexa to act as a nanny for her 4 year old daughter, but really Sierra has other ideas about reunion weekend.

Sierra knows that Jace McAllister will be attending and is hoping sparks will once again fly between him and Alexa. During high school, Alexa and Jace were inseparable. They became best friends, confidants, and loved spending time together. Both harbored feelings for one another, but never acted on them- both realizing too late how the other felt. Graduation night changes everything between them and a promise to reunite never comes- leaving Alexa as the one who got away. Upon finding out Jace will be at the reunion, Alexa is nervous- unsure of how to process this information or what to do when she sees him. Jace feels the same way. He has never gotten over Alexa and he desperately wants the chance to reconnect with her after so long. Upon reuniting, it is clear both of them still have strong feelings and attraction for one another. While Jace is ready to pick up where things left off between them, Alexa is very hesitant. She feels that by acting on her former feelings for Jace, she will be betraying the memory of her husband. She is conflicted as she thinks she should feel guilty for wanting more with him. Thankfully, her good friend Brady (who I loved!) was able to talk some sense into her and really help her put her fears and apprehension into perspective.

While Jace and Alexa certainly have chemistry, Jace understands that Alexa has been through a lot and he can't just jump right in where they left off that night 10 years ago. He knows he has to be patient with her and not rush her. By the end of the weekend, both are willing to see where they will go from there, but Alexa is worried about Jace's deployments and can't help but fear that she will lose another man in her life. The best thing about their relationship is that they actually communicate with one another. Alexa tells Jace what scares her and he in turn is able to look at life from a realistic angle that I felt she needed. Nothing in life is guaranteed. He can't promise her nothing will happen to him because he doesn't know if he can keep that promise. What he does promise is to do his best to make it back to her and I thought that was really sweet.

Jace is the ultimate dream guy. Really and truly. He is sexy, understanding, thoughtful, sweet, AND fights for his country. There really is no better combination in a man. He wants the whole package with Alexa: marriage, a family, her future. He knows not to push her, but he also isn't afraid to lay it all out on the line for her. Yes, taking that jump again is scary- but if she's not willing to take it- how can they have any kind of future together? Sometimes it takes a jolt to your senses to realize that life IS precious and there are things that should never go left unsaid because tomorrow isn't guaranteed.

In addition to the beautiful romance between Jace and Alexa, I loved our side characters. Sierra, her husband Jeremy, and their daughter Ava are absolutely precious. Sierra is a good sister to Alexa- giving her the pushes she needs to set things in motion. It is clear her and her sister are close, sharing everything with one another. Jeremy is a great brother-in-law to Alexa and watching their little family interact is adorable. Ava. Oh, Ava. She's is ADORABLE. She's also hilarious. Kids really are so innocent in what they say, and I found myself smiling at her more times than I can count. Seeing her warm up to Jace was beautiful and you could tell that he would make a great father someday.

I also liked Brady, Alexa's friend and co-worker. He was there to offer Alexa unbiased insight into her and Jace's relationship and ended up being Jace's biggest cheerleader. He wanted to see his friend happy and I'm glad she had someone that she could depend on that was on the outside. And then there's Knox, Jace's best friend. We don't learn very much about Knox in this book- just that he doesn't get along with his family and thinks Jace is crazy for getting so moonstruck over a girl. I am definitely looking forward to reading his story next!

Overall, this is a beautiful story about a girl and a boy finding their way back to one another after years of separation and loss and discovering that falling in love can happen more than once in your life. This story really shows you that tomorrow is not guaranteed and that is why living your life to the fullest each and every day is what counts. Don't be afraid to take chances, remember it's ok to be daring and a little reckless, but most of all- don't run from love- embrace it and fall into it every chance you get.

I look around the bar and immediately spot him. Holy shit, he’s even more gorgeous than before, I think as my eyes roam over him. My heart races like I’ve just run miles to get here, and my eyes cannot move from his. He looks just like Jace, but not the one I remember. He’s older, and rugged, not quite like the high school senior I remember. My eyes widen as I take in the bicep I’m pretty sure I couldn’t wrap my hand around. Hello muscles, I think as I try to force away the image of him hauling me up into his big arms and having his way with me.
I shake the thoughts away as I sweep my eyes over the rest of him. He’s wearing a plain black t-shirt that showcases the definition in his arms, and I can’t look away. I swear he flexes a little when he sees me looking as I witness a thick vein stretching across his forearm. I can see the beginnings of a tattoo peeking out from under his right sleeve, and I’m dying for further inspection. His dark hair is buzzed short in a standard military-style cut and his jaw is more squared than I remember.  His full lips attract my attention as he wraps them around the beer bottle he’s taking a drink from, and I involuntarily shudder at the memory of where those lips have touched me.
His blue eyes penetrate mine as he’s watching me, but his face is blank, so I have no idea if he even recognizes me. Bullshit, he knows exactly who you are. His eyebrows are drawn together, and I watch him take a deep breath as he plays with his beer bottle. Ryan sets me on the ground, and I take this chance to look down and turn away from him. I barely register what Ryan and Jeremy are talking about when Sierra grabs my hand and drags me to the bar.

About Tessa Teevan:

I'm a twenty six year old book junkie who is also obsessed with sports. Bengals, Buckeyes, Reds are my teams! I work for the government during the day, hang out with Air National Guard on the weekends, and am married to a guy 15 inches taller than me. We're quite the pair! We currently live right outside of Dayton, OH with our two cats.

I've been reading since I was a kid. My mom was a librarian, so it was a given. Heck, she even made sure we watched Wishbone instead of the Smurfs. In 2011 when I graduated from college, my mom bought me a Nook, and then in the summer of 2012 I found this amazing site called Goodreads. I was introduced to so many amazing indie/self-published authors. After reading almost 400 books that year, my husband gave me the push to finally sit down and write my own. It was a rocky start, but over time the words started flowing and I couldn't get Jace and Lexi out of my head.

If I’m not writing or looking through tons of photos of hot men, all in the name of research, then you can probably find me curled up with my Kindle, ignoring the rest of the world. I love my sports almost as much as I love my books. My other obsessions include red wine, hot men, country music, and all things Grace Potter.

But how do you put it all on the line when you've already lost everything once before?

*While this is a series, each book will be standalone.*

Excerpt

At one point I see her eyeing the tattoo on my forearm and before I know it her fingers graze over the italic words and the jagged, raised scar that underlines them as she reads aloud to herself. “Vulneratus non victus. What does it mean?”

I begin to tell her about the time when a roadside IED hit the Humvee in front of mine. My left arm had been hanging out the window and a piece of shrapnel tore into it. I had a four inch gash that had required forty-two stitches, but other than that I’d been fine.

“It’s Latin for ‘wounded, but not conquered.’ We were fortunate to have not had any bad injuries, so when we got back the guys and I all went and got this tattoo to commemorate that those bastards tried, but failed.”

She pales slightly at the mention of my injury, no matter how minor, so I wrack my brain trying to find a way to change the conversation into something much lighter, even though her fingers trailing over the words on my arm are making my skin tingle, bringing all kinds of erotic thoughts to mind.
