Armchair BEA: Keeping it Real/Children's Literature

By 7:09 PM

Today we're discussing how to keep your blog real, fresh, and fun and then talking about children's literature!

Firstly, I haven't been blogging for a super long time, but I feel one of the things that gets people coming back for more are writing meaningful reviews. I try to keep them as real as possible, throwing in my own little flair to keep them interesting and fun to read. I want you to know how I felt about my main characters- if I loved them to death or if I wanted to throttle them! I also want you to know about how I felt the pacing went, as well as if it was an easy read or more difficult to get in to.
I also try to post often. If I'm not posting a review, I try to include a Cover Reveal, Blog Tour, or a Weekly Meme- just to shake it up.

Well, my blog reviews a lot of Young Adult books already, so I'm going to talk about a few of my favorite MG's.

It's no surprise that I loved the Harry Potter series. I devoured those books. Those were the first books I truly could NOT go to sleep without reading. I would stay up till 3-4 AM just reading.

The Percy Jackson series by Rick Riordan comes in at a very close second. I have been fascinated with Greek mythology ever since I was in high school. Having read The Iliad, The Odyssey, etc more times than I can count, it was so awesome read the Percy series and know exactly what myth the creature came from.

Some other books that I loved while in middle school:

I loved Judy Blume's books! I remember Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing was so funny!

Number the Stars by Lois Lowry was definitely more serious, but I was a huge fan of the Diary of Anne Frank and wanted to read more about the Holocaust.

Bridge to Terabithia was such an amazing book, but I remember it being quite sad.

  1. You are definitely keeping your blog lively. You have a lot going on. I'm glad to find you through Armchair BEA.

I enjoyed all of the books you mentioned. They never get old. I've read all of them multiple times.

When I narrowed it down, I ended up with a few more: http://readingtl.blogspot.com

  4. I agree with you, putting your personality into your reviews and making them meaningful is important. After all, that is one of the main reasons we blog right? :-) I love to discuss the characters in my reivews too. In fact, that is something I mostly focus on because I don't like to give spoilers. I also love adding a quote and some IPOD picks to my reviews as well. Harry Potter, of course! I love Judy Blume (Dear God, It's Me Margaret is perhaps my favorite) :-)

    1. I don't like giving spoilers either! So talking about the other aspects of the book definitely works. And I LOVE that you add IPOD picks to each of your reviews! That is awesome! Oh, I did love that Judy Blume book too! I debated putting that also, but I got lazy. LOL.

    Thanks for visiting my blog!

Leave me some comment love! And I will get around to commenting back!

My blog is an award-free blog, however, as I just do not have the time to follow-up.
