The New York Times bestselling author of The Valentine’s Arrangement continues her sizzling series with a new novel of a plan that goes awry—in the arms of a soldier…

Picking the wrong men is a talent Meagan Mitchell has perfected. She’s sweet, confident, beautiful—and single. With her thirtieth birthday sneaking up on her, she needs a new plan. No more Mr. Wrongs or Mr. Bads, it’s time to find Mr. Safe…

Army Captain, Reed Porter, lives for the thrill—he’s an Airborne Jumpmaster with a rush addiction. He’s sexy and playful, and he quickly tempts Meagan with his rich Southern drawl and sinful looks. But slowing down and settling down are not in his agenda, making him exactly the type of man Meagan wants to avoid…

As their undeniable attraction heats up, Meagan has to decide if she’s willing to risk everything on a chance at love with a reckless charmer. Is she brave enough to bet her future—and her heart—on Mr. Thrill? Or will Reed finally learn that the feeling of a safe landing is just as addicting as the rush of the fall?

I've been hearing good things about Kelsie's books around the blogosphere, so naturally I had to check them out!  I thought this was a cute story, even if Meagan did drive me a little crazy at times. I absolutely adored Reed though- he was without a doubt my favorite in the story. Charming, sweet, sexy, and isn't afraid to live on the wild side! Who wouldn't want a man like that? Wellll.....

I felt for Meagan, I did. Having just turned 29 myself, I definitely can relate to her plight. She feels the pressure of her age- her friends are settling down, getting married, having kids... she wants those things too- but she has to stop dating all the wrong guys. She wants a safe, reliable man who she can have those things with, but she won't find that if she keeps down the path she's going. The fact of the matter is Meagan doesn't need Mr. Safe- she just needs Mr. Right. And unfortunately she just hasn't found him yet. If only she could realize that. Her best friend, Eva ends up getting transferred to Fort Benning, GA and Meagan decides to relocate with her. Maybe a fresh start is all she needs....

And then she runs into Reed Porter, her next door neighbor. It turns out her and Reed have a bit of history, which makes their connection to one another all the more exciting. As amazing as Reed is- he's not exactly Mr. Safe. Reed is a thrill-seeker. He loves feeling the rush that comes with doing those types of activities and Meagan knows that he does NOT fit her criteria. Yet, you can't deny attraction! Reed and Meagan certainly have a lot of it. They have chemistry for sure, and Meagan can't deny the sparks between them. I understand Meagan's need to protect her heart, but I felt she was too back and forth with Reed and I'm surprised he didn't give up and walk away.

While Reed wants Meagan, he is not looking for the same long term commitment she is. Reed has lost someone very dear to him and he carries a lot of guilt and grief over that, not feeling completely whole. I think that plays a large role in his reluctance to want more with someone. As reckless as Reed may seem, he IS a safe choice. He would never let anything happen to Meagan and when it comes time to be responsible, he's ready to make sacrifices in order to do so. Meagan has been hurt in the past and after an unplanned event, she is afraid of Reed's reaction and doubts his devotion to her. Meagan is so afraid that Reed won't stay and be the man she needs, but she is the one who ends up running, letting her insecurities get the best of her.

I really loved watching Reed and Meagan both discover their true feelings for one another. What may have started out casual becomes anything but. It just goes to show you that sometimes what you need turns out to be the one thing you didn't know you were looking for.

We had some great side characters too. I loved Meagan's friends Eva and Trevor, which the next novella is about. Eva and Trevor are both incorrigible flirts and are not looking to settle down. They are all about fun and making the most of the moment- but they are both super great to Meagan. Trevor fit that brotherly role perfectly and I love how he said that if a guy wouldn't try to fight him to be with her, he wasn't worth it anyways. <3 Reed's friends, Sanders, Brewer, and Murano were also great characters. Sanders and Eva had a bit of a thing going on in this book, but it seems purely physical. Brewer is one of Reed's soldiers that actually gets injured at the beginning of the book. Meagan is one his nurses and he reminds her of a little brother and she enjoys spending time with him while he heals. We don't get much of Murano, but the poor guy is in a pickle. He is in love with a married woman. Needless to say- his story is a complicated one.

Overall, this was a cute read and I love reading about men in uniform! Kelsie knows how to write some sexy, steamy scenes and I will definitely be reading more from her.

  2. This sounds like such a cute read! I love the hottie-next-door type of books, and I really like the fact that the MC is a bit older since I'm not exactly *clears throat* a young adult anymore ;) Great review, Jessica -- thanks so much for bringing this one to my attention!
