Here's the deal... I learned a long time ago that sometimes you have to use what you've got to make things happen. What I happen to have is a pretty smile, long legs and the ability to make men believe anything I say. Before you get on your high horse and start judging me, can you honestly say you've never batted your lashes at some guy for a free drink at the bar? That's what I thought.
Keep that in mind as I tell you my story of how I took it one step further. My story of lies, deceit, manipulation and love. Yeah, love. Believe me, it fits. Especially, when you factor in Nick and Tucker – one had my heart and the other one wanted it all for himself. Which one? Well, I can't tell you that. It would defeat the purpose of the story. If I'm going to fill you in about me, Lila Garrison, and my life as a con artist you're going to need to know all the facts, including the ones about the two guys who made me want to give up the life of fancy clothes, expensive jewelry, fast cars and easy money. Because sometimes, one person can give you something that's more valuable than all of that.
If you're still interested, stick around. Just remember, I'm pretty good at convincing people to do what I want, so if by the end of this whole thing you feel worked over, don't say I didn't warn you.

I am so proud to be a member of the Backwoods Belles, street team for Elizabeth Lee and Caisey Quinn. These ladies are amazing and I am in love with their books! A huge thank you to KP and EL for hooking me up with this deluxe edition of Give Me Something! I've been wanting to read it for a while now, but of course got swamped with other review books and tours. First of all- I love the unique idea behind the plot. Our main character is a con artist? WHAT?! Freaking COOL!
I like EL's writing style a lot. I felt she did a great job with the book's pacing and the main character's development. It took me a bit to really start to like Lila, as I felt she was too hung up on what would never be. Lila has been in love with her partner in crime (literally!) Nick for a long time. Nick was her saving grace and together it's been the two of them against the world. However, one night between them completely changes the game for Lila. She is in love with him and desperately wants more. However, while Nick cares about Lila in his own, twisted way, he doesn't love her the way she deserves to be loved. And it frustrated me to death that Lila couldn't see that. She kept waiting for things to change with him and my heart ached for her. Her family did not approve of her con artist ways and she is now estranged from them. Having lost them, I think Lila really just wants to be loved and appreciated. Nick has always been there for her and she sees him as her safety net. It takes her awhile to see Nick for what he really was.
Enter Tucker Kline. He is Lila's mark and happens to be Nick's roommate at school. Tucker is heir to wealthy corporation his father had built up and now Nick wants Lila to go after him. Lila, however, is at a place where she doesn't want to live this life anymore. She has enough to enjoy a comfortable life and she wants to move forward. She never in a million years expected a job to turn into something more. Tucker is the picture of confidence and swagger, but he is actually a really sweet guy. All of the girls swoon over Tucker and he is known for his player ways. However, he zones in on Lila at a party and refuses to give up on making her his. I was worried for awhile that Tucker was only looking for a challenge and then move on from Lila, so I was really glad that wasn't the case.
Tucker and Lila both may have went after each other for the wrong reasons, but these two end up having amazing chemistry together! I was Team Tucker every step of the way! I didn't feel Nick was good enough for her and even though I felt he made some really piss poor decisions, I think he genuinely wanted the best for Lila.
I did not care for Lila's friend Brynn. Sorry, presh! She just didn't do it for me, and I much preferred Tucker's friends, especially Kelly. Tucker comes from a very small town and everyone is friendly with one another. They embrace Lila and I felt that acceptance was a really big deal for her, never having anyone besides Nick to lean on. I also like that Alyssa and Jesse from Shattered make a cameo in this one! I love seeing books incorporate former characters so we can check on them and see how they are!
Watching Lila struggle to make sense of her feelings for Tucker and Nick was one of my favorite aspects of this book. We as readers could see beyond the façade Nick put up so naturally we all knew what choice Lila NEEDED to make! I am glad Lila followed her heart in the end, because she gained so many great things from doing so.

Great review girl! I totally agree, Lila frustrated me a bit in the beginning too. But only because I wanted her to see through Nick so badly. I understand that love blinds you sometimes though. I was glad that she fell for Tucker and finally saw the truth. Team Tucker all the way!
ReplyDeleteYes! I was like Lila, girl. We need to have a chat! LOL. I am also glad she fell for Tucker. Loved those two together!

Thanks Vi! I am always up for a little something different in the NA genre and this really did the job! I did NOT like Nick at all, but he's getting his own book so I'm curious as to where EL will take him!
