Now that Nikki has rescued Jack, all she wants is to be with him and graduate high school. But Cole tricked Nikki into feeding off him, and she’s begun the process of turning into an Everliving herself... which means she must feed on a Forfeit soon — or die.

Terrified for her survival, Nikki and Jack begin a desperate attempt to reverse the process using any means possible. Even Cole, who they expected to fight them at every turn, has become an unlikely ally — but how long can it last? Nikki needs to feed on Cole to survive, Cole needs Nikki to gain the throne in the Everneath, Jack needs Nikki because she is everything to him — and together, they must travel back to the Underworld to undo Nikki’s fate and make her mortal once more. But Cole isn’t the only one with plans for Nikki: the Queen has not forgotten Nikki’s treachery, and she wants her destroyed for good. Will Nikki be forced to spend eternity in the Underworld, or does she have what it takes to bring down the Everneath once and for all?

In this stunning conclusion to the Everneath trilogy, Brodi Ashton evokes the resiliency of the human spirit and the indomitable power of true love.

I had a really difficult time writing this review. I have really enjoyed this series as a whole and I am happy as to the way Ashton resolved everything. Yet, while the ending leaves me feeling full and happy, the book as a whole was not anything to write home about. I found the build up to the end to be rather lackluster. This series has never been an action packed one, but the somber and heartbreaking nature of the characters is what drew me in. Everbound remains my favorite of the series because of Nikki's journey through the Everneath to save Jack.

Evertrue begins where Everbound left off and I was left reeling over so many things that occurred. Just when you think people are on your side, you discover they really are only motivated by their own selfish gains. However, the one shining moment is Jack. I loved him from the very beginning and this boy does not cease to amaze me. He is so devoted to Nikki and I loved them together. Jack refuses to leave Nikki's side and he will do whatever it takes to keep her alive. When Nikki starts to feel hopeless, Jack is the one that gives her confidence and reminds her of what she has to do.

The biggest problem I had with this book was that I felt the turn of events regarding Cole was a bit too convenient. He is determined to replace the Queen of the Everneath with Nikki and I was left feeling a bit confused as to the resolution of this storyline. I obviously don't want to spoil anything, but again, I just felt it was too convenient and not at all what I saw coming.

The last few chapters were the most engaging and left me breathless. I had an idea of how things would end up and while it certainly tugged at my heartstrings, I felt it ended as it was meant to. These books are all about redemption, second chances, and sacrifice. These themes are what shape these books into what they are and I believe Ashton has created a truly beautiful series, despite my lack of enthusiasm with the final book.

  3. Wonderful Review Jess! I'm sorry this one was lackluster and a bit too convenient, but I'm glad that you at least got a good ending to a much beloved series. It's always a bit disappointing when the last book in a series you love isn't as good as the previous installments. Thanks for sharing :)

    1. Thanks Lindy! I am happy the ending was what I was looking for, because you're right- it's really crushing when the last book doesn't live up to its predecessors!
