Ringer has been one of my favorite characters from the beginning, so it was awesome to see him get his own novella! He is definitely the roughest of the Onslow boys and a lot edgier, so naturally I liked that Duggan made his novella fit his personality. In fact, I think this is probably the steamiest of the series so far. Ringer is a good guy through and through, despite his crudeness and rather dirty mouth. When he first meets Miranda, the two clash immediately and it does not look good for our characters. Ringer left Onslow to get away from all the love and romance in the air, never expecting to find it himself on a dusty, barren farm in Ballan. Miranda, on the other hand, hates her hometown and swore she would never go back. Too many dark memories remain there and there's no way she is going to end up as a farmer's wife.
At first it didn't seem possible for Duggan to create a romance between these two, they were so at each other's throats! Miranda is not the nicest heroine we've met thus far, and it really made me doubt whether I'd like her. I did eventually warm up to her, even though I thought she was a little over the top about her and Ringer's first encounter. Ringer isn't about to let some stuck up princess barge in and walk all over him, that's for sure. He gives her a taste of her own medicine and it's quite amusing to watch these two together. Miranda was able to meet Ringer blow for blow and she definitely didn't go down without a fight. What starts as a war, slowly turns into something more, as they both can't seem to stay away from one another.
While I enjoyed seeing our boy get some love, I did feel we didn't get quite as much development as I would have liked. Miranda's past issues were resolved a bit too quickly and Ringer's declaration of affection seemed too fast for his character's nature. Fans of the Summer series will undoubtedly enjoy this novella and will be happy to see Ringer find his match, as I was starting to feel left out for him back in Onslow! I honestly thought he and a certain someone else would work things out, but alas, it's not meant to be.
I'm looking forward to Forever Summer next, which is Ellie and Adam's story! I am super curious to see how Duggan will bring that one about!
