A troubled soul…

Ryland James arrives in Beachwood Bay on the run from his mistakes. He knows he’s the last thing Tegan needs, but somehow, he can’t stay away. There’s something about her fierce beauty that draws him in – and makes him vow to protect her, whatever the cost.

A passionate destiny…

Their bond is undeniable; the stakes, higher than ever. But the past won’t stay gone forever, and soon, Ryland must make the ultimate choice: will he risk everything he treasures in the world, or keep Tegan safe – and sacrifice her love forever?

Being a huge fan of Melody's and this series, I could not wait for the next Callahans/Beachwood Bay installment to arrive! We had already been introduced to Tegan in the previous novel, Uninhibited, as well as gotten a bit of her backstory. She has come to Beachwood Bay as an escape from a painful past that she is working to move forward from. For those of you who have read Unbroken, you are in for a treat in this book. I won't say much more, but the Callahan's and Ray's worlds collide in this novel....

I really liked Tegan. She has been through a lot in her young life and has experienced extreme lows before beginning the climb back upward. She is determined to steer clear of bad boys, as she knows firsthand that they only bring heartbreak and trouble. Ryland James is exactly the kind of guy she doesn't need in her life. Yet, one earth shattering kiss seriously rattles the foundation that Tegan stands upon. With Tegan's past relationship ending the way it did, she is careful to guard her heart, as she doesn't want love to be polluted like hers has been before.

Ryland might come across as a bad boy, but he's a teddy bear at heart. Having left Beachwood Bay more than 7 years ago to escape a rough childhood, Ryland is now back at home hoping to make amends for the time spent away from his family. He has a past of his own that he is desperately hoping to have left behind and begin anew.

Tegan and Ryland's relationship just worked for me. I love their chemistry, the way they banter and confide in one another, and the passion and feelings they evoke in each other is seriously hot. Ryland manages to work his way into Tegan's mind, as well as her heart and watching her overcome her fear of falling in love again is really beautiful to see as she deserves to be happy and be loved the way she needs.

We got to see our old favorites again, as well as meet some more new characters that I am excited to see more of. We got to meet Tegan's best friend Zoey, who has been living in Paris, and we get to see just how dedicated she is to her best friend. We don't find out a whole lot about Zoey in this novel, but it is hinted that she has been crushing on Tegan's older brother, Blake, for some time now. We also get to meet Blake himself, as he ends up in Beachwood Bay to check on his little sister. He doesn't think relationships are for him, as his career is too demanding and he doesn't have time to indulge in something stable or permanent. I will say this. Tegan's support system is incredible. Her brothers would not hesitate to drop everything and be there for her at a moment's notice. Ryland is working to repair his own relationships with his siblings and show that he is back for good.

I've said it in just about every review I've written for one of Melody's books, but I just LOVE her writing style. She has such a beautiful way with words and they never cease to impact me. I cannot wait for the next installment of this incredible series!
