The Monday Musts: You Were Here by Cori McCarthy, Anna Kendrick, Hamilton at the Grammys!
The Monday Musts is a new weekly meme I started and will be doing
instead of Music Monday. This way I can combine my love of music to fit
better with my book blog.
I would love for others to join me in doing The Monday Musts! I have
included a Linky at the end of my post, so please share your Monday
Musts!
It's super easy to do. What is a must read book? What album/song/artist
is a must listen? And finally what has caught your eye that is a must
see? (Can be ANYTHING. Other blogs, bookish things, pictures, etc.)
This week's MUSTS:
Must Read:
This book totally took me by surprise! I absolutely LOVED it! The formatting was such a neat addition, and I really enjoyed the overall story, romance, and flawed characters!
Must Listen:
My good friend Allison told me about this musical, The Last Five Years, and she told me I had to listen to the Anna Kendrick version! I love Anna's voice, so I decided to give it a listen! I'm still working on listening to it, but I love this first song, Still Hurting.
The Last 5 Years by Tony award winning composer and lyricist Jason Robert Brown is a musical deconstruction of a love affair and a marriage taking place over a five year period. Jamie Wellerstein is a young, talented up and coming Jewish novelist who falls in love with Cathy Hiatt, a Shiksa Goddess struggling actress. Their story is told almost entirely through songs using an intercutting time line device; all of Cathy's songs begin at the end of their marriage and move backwards in time to the beginning of their love affair while Jamie's songs start at the beginning of their affair and move forward to the end of their marriage. They meet in the center when Jamie proposes. Written by Anonymous (Taken from IMDB.com)
Must See:
The cast of Hamilton performed Live from the Richard Rodgers Theatre at the Grammy Awards last Monday night! *SQUEE!* For those of you who haven't jumped on the bandwagon, maybe this will convince you it's time.
(Sorry for the poor video quality. They took the other video down I had.)

I'm really excited to check out You Were Here. And also the Anna Kendrick movie was on Netflix. I need to check it out.
ReplyDeleteHappy Monday! :)
I love that book SO much Nick! Ahhhh. I can't stop thinking about it. And I really want to watch the movie! But I know it will make me cry. LOL.
DeleteThe movie version of The Last Five Years is on Netflix. (Or it was a couple weeks ago.) It pretty much destroyed me. I mean, it was gorgeous but definitely of the "rip your heart out" variety. Now how did I know you'd post the video of Hamilton? Haha. I've been trying to avoid it because I didn't want to give in, but after this performance, I listened to the soundtrack. I can absolutely see the appeal. I'm definitely intrigued by You Were Here, thanks to your and Tonya's flails over it. I might have to add it to my TBR.
ReplyDeleteHappy Monday!
I definitely want to watch the movie, even though I know it will kill me! Haha, I HAD to post Hamilton. You know I did. YAY for listening to the soundtrack! I have my mom hooked. And yes! You Were Here! READ IT!
DeleteI love Anna Kendrick and I remember hearing she was starring in that movie. Didn't realize it was a musical. I will have to see if it is on Netflix or something. I did see the Hamilton thing on the Grammy's. Amazing and clearly the best thing about that whole award show!!
ReplyDeleteI can't believe I never knew about it! I love her too! I think it is on Netflix according to what people have been saying. I'll have to look it up! And yes! It was my favorite part of the Grammys! All that watching definitely made up for it.
DeleteHa, our Must Reads are the same!!!
ReplyDeleteYAY! I am SO happy we both loved it!
DeleteOh I am firmly on the Hamilton bandwagon. Those songs get stuck in your head. I haven't actually listened to The Last Five Years, but I am interested because I love Jeremy Jordan (he's the guy). He was Jack Kelly in Newsies on Broadway and he is AMAZING!
ReplyDeleteYay! I love that so many people just love Hamilton too! It makes my heart happy! I recently saw Jeremy on Supergirl. I had no idea he could sing! And I love Newsies! I definitely want to listen to his version.
DeleteI've heard great things about You Were Here, I'm glad you liked it! Definitely adding it to my TBR list :) and I LOVE Anna Kendrick, one of my fav movies is Pitch Perfect so I'll be checking out The Last Five Years for sure, thanks for the recommendation!! And we are definitely on the Hamilton bandwagon in my house ;)
ReplyDeleteOh Jen! That book stole my heart. I just can't stop thinking about it. YAY for being on the Hamilton bandwagon! When I see people have their whole family in on it, it just tickles me to death!
DeleteI only watched the Grammys for Hamilton and it was soooo good. I enter the ticket lottery at least three times a week and I need to actually win one of these days! AHHH I JUST WANNA GO AND NOT PAY THREE TIMES FACE VALUE. Anyhoo, I wanna see The Last Five Years cause I love both of those guys.
ReplyDeleteTeresa. I know you love your sister and all. BUT. If you win lottery tickets, I am demanding you bring me. *puppy dog eyes* LOL. I wish I could enter it too! I don't want to pay 50 billion dollars. Or wait until the original cast is already gone.
DeleteHaven't seen that book, but I do love the cover and now I'm intrigued :)
ReplyDeleteHappy Monday!
I love the cover too! It's gorgeous! :) And it's SO good!

ReplyDeleteIt was definitely a beautiful book Micheline! It really kept me thinking about it for days afterwards! Anna Kendrick is so awesome. Who would have thought her career would be what it was after Twilight?
DeleteThat Hamilton live at the Grammy's performance was amazing!!! I so want to see it live!! GAH! Living on the other side of the Atlantic sucks so much sometimes!!
ReplyDeleteME TOO Pili! I would do anything for tickets! :( I wish I could live in NYC and actually enter the lottery every day.
DeleteLeave me some comment love! And I will get around to commenting back!
My blog is an award-free blog, however, as I just do not have the time to follow-up.
