Tess Kendrick,
teen fixer extraordinaire, returns in a pulse-pounding thriller about a
deadly conspiracy at the heart of Washington.
For Tess Kendrick, a junior at the elite Hardwicke School in Washington D.C., fixing runs in the family. But Tess has another legacy, too, one that involves power and the making of political dynasties. When Tess is asked to run a classmate's campaign for student council, she agrees. But when the candidates are children of politicians, even a high school election can involve life-shattering secrets.
Meanwhile, Tess's guardian has also taken on an impossible case, as a terrorist attack calls into doubt who can--and cannot--be trusted on Capitol Hill. Tess knows better than most that power is currency in D.C., but she's about to discover first-hand that power always comes with a price.
Perfect for fans of Harlan Coben and Ally Carter, the second book in this thrilling series will leave readers breathless.

After reading and LOVING The Fixer, I couldn't wait to get my hands on The Long Game! I never would have thought I would enjoy political thrillers, but man, Jennifer Lynn Barnes has sold me! There are so many twists and turns that I did NOT see coming! I was seriously floored! I love books that take me by surprise like that!
I will keep my thoughts brief, as I do not want to include any spoilers from The Fixer, as there are plenty of twists and turns in that one as well! Tess has become known as a fixer at her school and while she doesn't really relish the job, she still ends up doing it. She doesn't like seeing her classmates treated unjustly and no matter how much she says she's not going to, she always finds her way into the middle of the fray! Her relationship with Ivy is definitely strained after things came to light in the previous book, but I really like the way Barnes developed that relationship. It's realistic and raw and I just love it. I also love Adam too and am still holding out for him and Ivy to get together!
The gang is all back in this one and there's a hint of a romance! I wasn't sure how I would feel about it, but I was totally on board! However, things get... complicated. That's a good word for it. :) And that's all you'll get from me.
Action, adventure, intrigue, secrets, betrayal... it's all here in this second book in the series! I am really hoping Barnes gets contracted for a third novel because oh my goodness I need closure and answers! I highly recommend these books- they are so much fun and they read so fast!

I've been hearing so many great things about this series. It sounds like a lot of fun, but I think I'll wait to see if she gets contracted first especially if there are unanswered questions. I love that it had twists and turns you didn't see coming though. That's usually rare from YA!
ReplyDeleteGreat review, Jess!
I definitely understand the hesitation. I'm sure she will get a third book though! They'd be crazy not to! I love when a book causes me to literally stare at the pages with my mouth hanging open in shock!
DeleteSo I am not much of a thriller person so I never gave this series much thought, but you have me rethinking that. This sounds so good! Great review!
ReplyDeleteI'm not really either Teresa! Like horror, thrillers, murder mysteries aren't typically my thing, but maybe it's the political part that has me hooked?
DeleteI am so excited to read this! I am so glad it was still as good as the first one.
ReplyDeleteYes! It is! That's always something you wonder about with sequels, but JLB nailed it!
DeleteLeave me some comment love! And I will get around to commenting back!
My blog is an award-free blog, however, as I just do not have the time to follow-up.
