12 New Adult Novellas. 12 Best Selling Authors. November 2013.

With the holiday season upon her, Jamie Foster is once again stressed about making her yearly visit back home to Woodfalls, still single. Fate intervenes in the form of Grant Johnson, a boy she grew up with, who catches the same flight while returning home from a business trip.

When a malfunction sends their plane crashing down on the runway upon takeoff, Jamie and Grant decide to rent a car and make the nine-hundred-mile drive home together. Ironically for them, anything that can go wrong does as they face one hysterical hurdle after another.

Christmas may finally bring Jamie the gift of love she has always wanted if she and Grant can manage to overcome a few obstacles along the way. Ho-ho-ho!

Living in the South sometimes makes getting into the holiday spirit rather difficult. Having grown up and spending Christmases up North, it was the colder weather and snow that really got me in the holiday mood. My family has stayed at home for the last several Christmases, choosing to travel up North in the summer when it's warmer, so the 50-60 degree weather that we tend to get, just doesn't get me in the holiday spirit. When I saw that authors were putting out a 12 NA's of Christmas anthology, I was so excited. I figured maybe reading some holiday books would get me in the spirit- and this one did! (Oh, and the high here today is going to be 35, so that ALSO helped as I curled up on my couch tucked under a warm blanket with my book!)

Anyways! This was such a cute novella that I actually wish it were a full length novel! It reminded me of that old Ashton Kutcher/Brittany Murphy movie Just Married. Pretty much everything that can go wrong, does go wrong. Jamie is headed back to Woodfalls for the holidays and she's not exactly thrilled about it. Woodfalls is one of those small towns where everyone knows everyone else and everyone's business is common knowledge. Jamie got out of town as soon as she graduated high school and only comes back home at Christmas. She has not had much luck in the relationship department and is still single. Jamie is a romantic at heart and I loved that she based her food blog around cooking special treats for your loved one. She believes in soul mates and the one, but unfortunately just hasn't found him yet.

Imagine her surprise when a blast from her past by the name of Grant Johnson shows up on the very same flight back home as her. Jamie is not happy at the fact that Grant will be sitting next to her for the hour and a half plane ride. Her and Grant have known each other since they were kids and he was always the boy to pick on her and mess with her. She had crushed on him for a long time, until freshman year he started dating another girl, thus breaking her heart. After a crazy accident involving their plane occurs, the two find themselves on a 900 mile road trip back home together.

I love road trip stories, so naturally watching these two try to make it home is quite the adventure. Being the holidays, hotels are booked, cars are taken, and Jamie and Grant must make do with what they have- even if it means riding in a teeny car and staying in less than desirable accommodations. However, these mishaps end up bringing the two closer together and both realize that the feelings they tried so hard to push down are still present and want to reveal themselves.

Grant, while loving to tease Jamie and call her 'Jams', is actually a really sweet guy. He has taken over the family business in Woodfalls and is traveling back home from a trip. Catching back up with Jamie was the last thing he ever expected. He loved to pick on her and tease her when she was younger, but that was his way of showing he cared about her and he liked her. Her leaving town after graduation really hurt him as well, despite the fact that he was dating someone else.

Overall, this was a really sweet, funny story about two people finding their way back to each other and finally acting on feelings they had hidden away for so long. A perfect read to get you in the mood for the holidays!

  1. I keep wondering, are these sold separately? Or is it like a book bundle that includes all of them? Because some of them look really good and perfect to put you in the holiday mood :)

  3. Wasn't this so cute? I sat on the couch, by the fire, listening to Christmas music while I read this and loved it. I really need some Christmas spirit this year too and looking forward to these Christmas novellas to help me out. This one reminded me of one of those cutesy ABC family Christmas movies and I loved it. Great Review!

  5. This sounds like such a sweet story! I loved Just Married :) I love when the weather is cold during the holidays too, and I get to snuggle with my book, and some hot chocolate! Living in Southern California, the weather is never that cold. I agree that it helps me get more in the spirit when it's not all bright and sunny. I want to read this book! Awesome Review Jess :)

    1. Yes! That sounds so good! Oh, I want to move to SoCal! LOL. I fell in love with SD and I've been itching to go back- but I think I would miss the chilly weather around the holidays.
