I know what you're thinking. “You were such a jerk, Nick!” Believe me, I know I screwed up the best thing I had going in my life, but that was kind of my thing. I’d learned how to run cons before I could even form complete sentences, and I'd always been selfish. But I changed. Lila forgave me, my brother and I were getting along, and I was trying to make a name for myself in the music world. At least that was what I was trying to do when I negotiated my way into the recording studio with pop superstar Sadie Sinclair. I thought it would be a piece of cake—charm my way into her heart and into her record label's good graces. Just when I thought I had it all figured out, I got mixed up in a web of lies, manipulation, and deception. A web that had me questioning my motives and desires altogether. Was the fame and fortune really worth the price?

As I dressed for lunch the next day, I made sure to pick out a short sleeved shirt. If Sadie was into bad boys, I was going to give her what she wanted—tattoos and attitude. Lila may have said that it was a bad idea to pull at this girl's heartstrings, but evidence had shown that the quickest way to get a girl to do what you want is to give her what she wants. This girl wanted someone to love her like a grown ass woman and I could do that. Not to mention, I'd spent the better part of the night staring at her photographs from countless magazine spreads and video stills. She was smoking hot. I didn't know a guy on the planet that wouldn't have taken a crack at bedding Sadie Sinclair. I had to remind my dick that my brain was the one in charge that afternoon when I walked into the restaurant and up to the table Hollace had reserved for our lunch meeting. My eyes found hers as Hollace stood up to shake my hand. “Nick, this is – ” Hollace started to introduce us.

“Sadie Sinclair,” I reached out for her hand and pulled her up on her heels. She wasn't very tall, but in those shoes her legs looked like they stretched for miles out from under the little miniskirt she was wearing. I wouldn't have been a dude, if I didn't have a quick thought of them wrapped around my waist. “I know all about you.” I offered up my most seductive smile.

“Well, now,” she breathed with just a hint of the southern twang she'd tried so hard to loose over the span of her career. “That doesn't seem fair, considering I know nothing about you, Mr...” Her teeth tugged at her bottom lip as she waited for me to answer and let her eyes pour over my tattooed arms. Yep. She liked a bad boy.

“Nick Kline,” I answered. “It' a pleasure to meet you.”

“This is the new, up and coming producer I was telling you about, Sadie,” Hollace interjected as he stood up. Sadie stared me down. It was hard to tell if she was just enjoying the view or if she was silently judging me. Sadie dropped her hand from mine and popped it up on her hip. Her eyes flashed from lust to anger in a split second. “I told you I didn't want a rookie,” she said defensively. Judging it was. As much as she wanted to sound like an artist, I had it on good authority that she was actually about as talented as pixie stick. “Relax, Sadie,” Hollace calmed her by placing a hand on her bare shoulder. “I'm on your side, remember?”

“You better be,” she reminded him. “That won't be a problem for me, Miss Sinclair,” I interrupted as she dropped back into her seat and crossed her arms over her chest. I didn't care if she couldn't sing, or even read music, for that matter. I was the artist and I could work auto-tune with the best of them. “I'd love to discuss your vision and how I can help you accomplish it.”

Author Photo When I'm not writing or playing the part of wife and mother, you can find me dancing back-up for Beyonce, singing back-up for Miranda, or sunning myself on the beach with a drink in hand. Here's the thing about being born and raised in a small town—you have a very vivid imagination! Now, I channel it all to create stories where the girl always ends up with the right guy, first kisses are magical, and a happy ending is just that!

Here's the deal... I learned a long time ago that sometimes you have to use what you've got to make things happen. What I happen to have is a pretty smile, long legs and the ability to make men believe anything I say. Before you get on your high horse and start judging me, can you honestly say you've never batted your lashes at some guy for a free drink at the bar? That's what I thought.

Keep that in mind as I tell you my story of how I took it one step further. My story of lies, deceit, manipulation and love. Yeah, love. Believe me, it fits. Especially, when you factor in Nick and Tucker – one had my heart and the other one wanted it all for himself. Which one? Well, I can't tell you that. It would defeat the purpose of the story. If I'm going to fill you in about me, Lila Garrison, and my life as a con artist you're going to need to know all the facts, including the ones about the two guys who made me want to give up the life of fancy clothes, expensive jewelry, fast cars and easy money. Because sometimes, one person can give you something that's more valuable than all of that.

If you're still interested, stick around. Just remember, I'm pretty good at convincing people to do what I want, so if by the end of this whole thing you feel worked over, don't say I didn't warn you...
