Weekly Wrap-Up #50 {Dark Days edition!}
Not a whole lot went down this week of note, except for the big Dark Days Tour this past Thursday! I have to say I'm really proud of myself for coming out of my shell and just chatting it up at the event. I never used to be shy or have trouble making conversation, but in my old age I get really nervous and have trouble keeping conversation flowing. I met Elizabeth and Debbie down at the Decatur Book Festival this past year and realized we were from the same area and I actually knew Debbie's son, who used to work at my school. Since then I've seen them at a few Nashville events, so it's cool seeing them every time!
I also met Mary from Mary Had a Little Book Blog and she was so awesome! I can't wait to meet up with her again on Tuesday for Courtney Stevens' Faking Normal release launch! Also, I met Danie from The Bookish Brunette who now lives down here! She was a lot of fun too and so friendly! Finally, I had seen Cassie from Citrus Reads at some book events and we're on friends on twitter, but never actually officially met her until last night! She's also really sweet!
I also won a cool EpicReads book shimmy bag for asking the final question at the event which I totally directed to Tahereh. LOL. I asked how daunting it was to go into the final book of your series and dealing with pressure to stay true to your characters, but also dealing with fan expectations and knowing you can't please everyone. I was very happy with all the author's answers though.
However, I really struggle when it comes to meeting authors and not knowing what to say. I always feel like such a dork saying hi and having them sign and then tell them it was nice to meet them. So, feel free to share some great questions/comments I can start asking in the future!
I felt the most comfortable with Sophie, because I pretty much just gushed over her books and how much I loved them. And she was so sweet and cool and even told me a secret spoiler about one of her upcoming books! (It might not be secret and others might know, but I'm going to feel special anyways! LOL.) I talked to her the longest and I really loved talking about her books with her!
Veronica Rossi and Tahereh Mafi- they are so beautiful!!!
Veronica and Tahereh
Kiersten and Sophie- also gorgeous! (Sorry so blurry)
And FINALLY- I took this one from Danie's Twitter- how crazy awesome was it that all of these authors showed up to show their support!?!?! I was fangirling all over the place and am so mad I couldn't find Anna and the French Kiss to have Stephanie sign!

LOL, old age? I bet I'm older than you. (I don't really know.)
ReplyDeleteBut yay for Dark Days! I was going to go go the one in DC but ended up not. Instead I helped teach my husband about blogs.
Haha. Ashley, I'm 29. LOL. Teaching your hubby about blogs? Sounds interesting! :D
DeleteI'm glad you had fun at Dark Days! I'm extremely shy when it comes to meeting new people so the only time I went to an author event I felt really awkward when I was getting my books signed because I had no idea what to say, lol.
ReplyDeleteAww Christy! I definitely get starstruck. LOL. And I babble. Hahah. I can chat with other bloggers and readers no problem though.
DeleteBlah I'm so awkward too! I love meeting new people until I realize I have to actually say stuff and then my mouth doesn't work. I'll have to get over it though because with luck I'll be at the Story Crush stop here in GA next week! I'm glad you had a good time though!
ReplyDeleteHahaha! Good luck Michelle at Story Crush! That's going to be fun!
DeleteWhat a great line up! I haven't been to a book signing yet but I'm going to my first in July and hope I won't be tongue tied but suspect I might be! I'll have to stalk this post to see if you get good tips on what to ask authors :)
ReplyDeleteAww I hope you have fun Trish! They are such a blast to go to!
DeleteSo glad you got to go and had so much fun. It's always awesome to meet other bloggers. I feel the same as you, I feel like a dork having them sign stuff and stand awkwardly. I get starstruck :-)
ReplyDeleteHaha me too! Maybe at BEA we will encourage each other and together we won't be so awkward! LOL- better yet we'll be total dorks and make them laugh.
DeleteThis sounds like you had a lot of fun!! Also, love that picture of all the authors, that's so awesome! (and wow, Ransom is really tall, haha). Glad you got to go! :)
ReplyDeleteI had such a good time Wendy! :D I'm really glad I went! And he is SO tall!!!!!
DeleteGood for you for getting out of your shell! It's interesting that you say it's harder the older you get. For me, it's been the opposite, but by no means means that it's easy! (Did I just use "means" twice in a row correctly?) I've been to a few signings over the past year, and I force myself to ask a question. That always helps, and I'm glad you got a question out, too. And I'm glad you got a Book Shimmy tote - those are so cute!
ReplyDeleteThanks Stephanie! That is too funny you're the opposite! I'm really jealous! I'm really good once I'm pulled into a conversation, but I suck at starting it. LOL
DeleteLeave me some comment love! And I will get around to commenting back!
My blog is an award-free blog, however, as I just do not have the time to follow-up.
