He’s twenty-four. She’s eighteen.
His life is exactly the way he’s always wanted it to be...stable.
She’s quite possibly the very definition of unstable.
Noah saved her.
Georgina never wanted to be saved.
Growing up, Noah Clark was passed from one relative to the next until he finally ended up living with his abusive, alcoholic uncle in Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina. Thanks in part to the unwavering love and support of his best friend, Ellie Turner, Noah survived those years, escaped his uncle, and grew into the man he is today. Now he runs his own business and lives a pretty normal, no-nonsense life—one where he maintains a high level of control.
Georgina is Ellie’s younger sister. Four months ago, Noah saved Georgie’s life, but he thought that was where his involvement with his friend’s sister would end. Now Georgie has returned home from the recovery facility her parents sent her away to and Noah, still haunted by the night that connects them, can’t stop himself from continuously trying to protect this girl he barely knows. But is he willing to give up all of the control he’s worked so hard to build in his life and risk everything for her? Even more importantly, would she do the same for him?

Kill Devil Hills is a love story that emerges on the heels of tragedy. Georgie and Noah have both experienced loss in their lives, but have coped in drastically different ways. This is their story of healing and realizing just how much their lives have been changed by the other.
While I enjoyed the novel as a whole, I did feel it was a bit lacking in terms of plot. The story is pretty linear with few conflicts. The love story between Georgie and Noah was sweet and I liked seeing them together, but I just felt the overall story needed a bit more for me.
I really liked Georgie and Noah. After tragedy struck the Turner family, Georgie did not handle it well. She coped in the only way she knew, not really weighing the consequences of her actions. Noah was the one to save her and now that she has returned after four months away, he is finding that the sweet, beautiful girl is never far from his thoughts. Noah is best friends with Georgie's older sister, Ellie, and has earned his own place in the Turner family. Noah has some OCD tendencies, but really he just prefers being in control. After growing up with relatively little control of his own, his life has been shaped by those experiences and still lets them play a role in his life today. He has a good heart and I like how protective he is of Georgie. He wants what's best for her, and even though he knows it might not be him, he find he can't walk away from her and what he feels.
I enjoyed seeing the roles Georgie's sisters played in the novel also. Ellie and Noah have a great friendship and they complement each other really well. It's nice to see how supportive they are of one another. Rose, Georgie's younger sister, was a bit more of a challenge. Her relationship with Georgie is strained in the beginning, and she is not to be dismissed as a brat. She is younger than Ellie and Georgie and lets her anger rule her emotions. She doesn't understand why Georgie would make the choice she did, as their family was already in enough pain as it was.
I am a big fan of Sarah Darlington's writing style. I feel she does a great job of keeping her stories fluid and continuous and I like her characterization. I am excited to see this is going to be a part of a series, and I can't wait to see whose story she will write next!
Sarah Darlington lives in Virginia with her husband and crazy-active 2-year-old son. She’s a former flight attendant, day-dreamer, traveler, and wannabe photographer. Her debut novel HE BELONGS WITH ME, a standalone, was released March 2014. KILL DEVIL HILLS will be the first book of a three book series. Each novel in this new series will feature a different couple's story.
