Got boy problems? Call Laney Scott. She's good for advice, a shoulder, or a swift kick where you need it. When her roommate Bethany gets her heart broken, yet again, it's Laney to the rescue. But Laney's harboring a secret. She's nursing her own broken heart. She and her friends come up with a plan to break Aiden and set it into play. Laney wants Aiden to pay for what he's done to Bethany. She will make him fall in love with her, so can break his heart.

Laney's ex-boyfriend Lachlan Hems is back in Florida, still Australian and sexy as hell. His best mate Lucas is getting married, and he is in town for the show. He just didn’t realize Laney would be there … in another guy’s arms, or that seeing her again would have such an effect on him. After the incident in high-school, he vowed to never care for her again. But sometimes fate has different plans.

When Laney’s resolve crumbles, Lachlan is the only one that can put her back together again.

Where You Are is the start of a three-books new adult series from Amazon and Barnes and Noble bestselling author Alla Kar.

I really enjoy New Adult books that take place in the college setting. Where You Are alternates back and forth between Laney and Lachlan's POV's, giving us access to both parties and their thoughts. Laney and Lachlan have some heavy history between them and their reunion doesn't go very smoothly. This story focuses on more than just Laney and Lachlan's relationship. Laney finds herself in the middle of a scheme to play the school player, who has hurt one too many girls, including her friend Bethany.

I thought this was a fun read, but I did find myself having trouble connecting to the characters, especially Lachlan. He wasn't a bad guy, but I just found myself disappointed he'd be with other girls when it was clear he wanted Laney back. I get that it's realistic, but I just prefer my romances to leave it unsaid. The romance between Laney and Lachlan is incredibly strained, as things did not end well between them. They never did get closure from one another and both of them desperately want another chance together. However, Laney has not forgiven herself for what happened between them and still carries a lot of pain and guilt. Instead of communicating, Laney prefers to run away and tries to avoid Lachlan at every turn.

She can't deny that he can still make her blood boil and set her entire being on fire though. She finds herself completely under his spell, but then always seems to snap back to reality and pushes him away. It felt a bit juvenile to me and I felt we only got to see their relationship on a very surface level instead of the depth I would have liked.

I liked the 'play the player' storyline, but I did feel it dominated a bit too much of the plot. Kar did a great job of jumbling up my feelings on the matter. In the beginning it seemed like a good idea for him to get a taste of his own medicine, but later we realize that two wrongs don't make a right and that maybe there's more to Aiden's story than we know...

Overall, New Adult fans should definitely give this a try. While I enjoyed it, I did have some things I wish were handled a bit differently and expanded on more.
