Just when I was lamenting the end of the Sweet, Texas series by Candis Terry, the Brightwater series by Lia Riley came along and filled that hole in my adult contemporary reading life! I love books that are set in small towns where everyone knows everyone else, so naturally this series is just a win for me. We briefly met the main characters Archer and Eden (Edie) in the previous book but we only got a glimpse of their tension together.
I really liked how Riley matched the timelines up with these two books. I loved seeing Archer and Edie's story coincide with Sawyer and Annie's from the first book. I love strong secondary characters and feeling a connection to them.
Archer Kane has always been the bad boy womanizer and we certainly get a glimpse of that as the book opens. However, we also see that he is growing tired of his playboy ways and wonders what it would be like to settle down. Edie on the other hand, is running away from commitment, as her fiancée was only with her for monetary reasons and had a girlfriend on the side! She ends up meeting Archer and he is the one to give her a ride back to Brightwater, where she can get her head together and her life back on track.
However, Archer finds himself really liking Edie and her company and he doesn't want to cut ties and go their separate ways. It was sweet to see Archer vie for her attention, but she was hesitant to start something with him, especially having found out his history and that she was trying to get herself back together. They have such great chemistry though and I loved seeing them together.
I really enjoyed reading this one and I just can't get enough of this series. These books are fun, sexy, and sweet at the same time. Grandma Kane is always a favorite and has me cracking up because that old woman does not hold her tongue for anything! I'm really looking forward to meeting the eldest Kane brother next!

Wohoo! I adored Archer and Edie too and this series is just too cute for words. I loved the progression of their romance too. And OMG Grandma Kane! That woman is a nutjob, but I secretly love her. :) I can't wait to read the next one! I hope it will be just as good.

ReplyDeleteI completely agree, Jess! This series is doing for me what Candis Terry's series did before. I'm always looking for contemporary romance authors that I'll enjoy, and I've definitely found a new one. I liked book 1 better overall, but I just love how angst-free these books have been!
