Sometimes you can't help falling in love, even when you try to do the opposite...

Successful fashion blogger McKenna Bell has spent far too long protecting herself after the way her ex-fiancé left her at the altar for a college chick he met the night of his bachelor party. Loving again, trusting again, well, that's just not in the cards. Especially now that her ex is back in town with his new woman, demanding custody of McKenna's favorite creature in the whole world--her dog.

No effing way. McKenna's had enough of him, and she decides to even the score by finding her own hot young thing -- a Trophy Husband. Sure, she's only twenty-seven, but doesn't that make it even more fun -- and infuriating to her ex -- to pursue a younger man?

When she declares her intentions on her daily blog, her quest quickly skyrockets in popularity, and that's when Chris enters the picture, and he’s got all the assets. He's handsome, successful, and turns her inside out with a kiss to end all kisses, the kind that makes you feel like a shooting star.

But loving again could mean losing again, and it's so much easier to focus on getting even, isn't it? Unless, you just can't help falling in love. Which means McKenna will have to come face to face with what she really wants in life -- protecting her heart from hurt, or letting go of her fears of a new beginning.

My Review:

Holy hotness, Batman! This book was full of steamy goodness! Lauren Blakely has once again created a fun, flirty book that had me grinning from ear to ear and chuckling on multiple occasions. She opens up the book with a teaser and then propels us back in time so that we can see how she reached that point.

I loved McKenna. She was such an awesome protagonist. Sure, there were some points where I wanted to throttle her and yell at her, but overall, despite having been burned by love in the past, she's still a hopeless romantic. She is definitely not afraid to be herself and as hurt as she is by her ex, she still manages to (for the most part) keep her head held high. Sure, she has a few moments of weakness. Like hiding in a bathroom for an hour or coming up with the absurd idea of finding herself a trophy husband just to prove a point.

The thing I liked most of McKenna was that she was relatable. She was a hopeless romantic, liked to kick ass in video games, and had a dog that she couldn't live without. (That sounds incredibly familiar! Hint: ME!)

McKenna is a planner. She has this plan to find a trophy husband, but I don't think she really realizes the repercussions. (Like, when you advertise for a husband like this, of course you're going to get guys that are only interested in the money!) And she certainly didn't plan on meeting Mr. Right, who was making her question her motives and reasons for starting the project in the first place.

I loved Chris's character. (Though I do wish we had gotten to know a little bit more about him, his past, etc.) He was a fun, down to earth guy, who genuinely liked McKenna for who she was. He's good-looking, successful, and willing to help another in need. He was determined to prove to McKenna that he was the right one for her, even going so far as to get involved with her Trophy Husband project. He wanted to help her, knew that that was what she was working on, but at the end of the day, he wanted her to be his and only his.

We also had some great side characters. McKenna's girlfriends were supportive of her throughout her break-up and then afterwards taking on her new endeavor. Andy was probably my favorite though. He films McKenna's blog and didn't agree with her Trophy Husband project. He wanted more for her and it was really nice to see how much he cared for her.

McKenna's ex on the other hand- gah. Completely irritating. All of the things he said he didn't want before, he all of sudden does- with his new wife. I didn't mind her character very much and I did really like how she handled her husband at the end while he was trying to screw McKenna over. It was almost as if he was just trying to take things from her, just because he thought he could.

Overall, this was a fun, light read. I loved the characters and watching McKenna's quest for the perfect Trophy Husband unravel was filled with humor and at times complete awkwardness.

But most importantly, realizing that what you think you want, may not actually be what you really need.
